Hello, Hope someone can answer this for me: In 1652 Surry Co VA , would a boy 17 or under have been signing a petition ? And how old would a young man have to be to have been called upon to view a body for an inquest in those days ? I'm trying to narrow down the approximate age of an ancestor. Thanks for any help. Teresa
Could have signed the petition, but the signature would have had no legal effect, and a 17 year old might well have been asked to view a body. If, however, he "vew'd the body" as in an autopsy or coroner's inquest for the purpose of making a determination as to some aspect of that death, he would have been 21. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Teresa" <tshands@lv.rmci.net> To: <VA-SOUTHSIDE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 29, 2001 12:33 AM Subject: [VA-SOUTHSIDE-L] Age question - Surry Co 1650s > Hello, > Hope someone can answer this for me: > In 1652 Surry Co VA , would a boy 17 or under have been signing a > petition ?
