    1. [VA-SOUTHSIDE-L] What is a Hyde Bedstead?
    2. Hello Everyone, In making sure I have all my Hyde references, I went through the genweb archives and found Inventory &c of the estate of Henry Maynard decdan, 1726 Prince George Co, with the following reference (and this is NOT a summary of estate sale purchasers): To 1 Hyde Bestead & Cord 12/. Does anyone have any idea what that would be. I tried to do a search and came up empty. Best Regards, Janet Hunter

    3. Hi Janet. As mentioned previously, my best guess is that the word "Hyde" means "hide," as in "hideable" (but NOT what we now call a "hideaway bed"). It was a rope-bed frame ("bedstead" with pegs for rope to take the place of any form of mattress) with legs that folded up alongside the frame, and sometimes with the frame itself folding in half. Such were foldable for easy storage standing up on end or under another piece of furniture, such as a couch/sofa. Paul ----- Original Message ----- From: <jleehunt1@aol.com> What is a Hyde Bedstead?
