According to the VA Genweb County Formation Page here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vagenweb/county2.htm Pittsylvania was formed in 1766, however, on the time line at the county website it says it was cut off June 1, 1767. http://www.rootsweb.com/~vapittsy/time.htm The date difference may have something to do with when the decision was made to cut it out and when it actually happened. I don't think I've seen any records before 1767, however. Maybe there was a petition in 1764??
