Am researching the GOODE families that were in Henrico, Lunenburg, Charlotte, Caroline and Bedford Co. William GOODE, was born in Henrico Co. ca 1700, s/o Samuel GOODE. William and his wife, Pheby, are of Lunenburg Co in 1751, Charlotte in 1769. His estate is appraised in Caroline Co. 8 Feb 1770. No will has been found. William, Edward, Richard and Thomas GOODE appear in the Caroline records from 1755 forward. Edward GOODE's will was written 28 Mar 1763, proved in the Caroline Co. August Court, 1763. A copy of that will is found in the book "Williamsburg Wills", W. Crozier, 1954. He lists his wife as Martha, and indicates four children: Ann, Richard, Edmund, and Martha. Exr. Thomas SHIP. Witnesses: Richard GOODE, Betty BRANGHILE. Without being able to see the will, I am unable to determine if his name is Edward or Edmund. In the book, "Virginia Cousins" by G. Brown Goode, William and Pheby GOODE are listed as parents of three children: (1) John GOODE = Francis HUNTER; (2) William GOODE; and (3) Edmund GOODE = Sarah BRANCH. Edmund GOODE = Sarah BRANCH is my line, and the listing in "Virginia Cousins" is incorrect. The Bedford Court records of 22 Oct 1771, indicate that Edmund and Richard GOODE are orphans of Edmund/Edward GOODE, decd. The children are bound out to Richard DURRETT, (who appears to be the husband of Martha DURRETT). I believe that Martha DURRETT is the widow of Edmund/Edward GOODE, Sr. Would like to correspond with anyone researching these families.
