I was recently looking through my Johnston notes and realized (DUD!) that the land on Bantree Fork of Chestnut Creek that Samuel and Elizabeth Johnston sold on 21 Mar 1785 must be the same parcel granted to William Johnston on 20 Oct 1779, described as "both sides on Bantree's Fork and Chestnut Creek" in Charlotte County. Both tracts were 326 acres. They must be the same. How did Sam come into the property? If through inheritance, where is the documentation? And why would he need his wife's agreement to the deed, i.e. her relinquishment of dower if the property had been inherited by Sam, not her? If he purchased the land, where is the deed? According to Blunt, Complete Index and Abstracts of the Henry County Order Books # 1 and #2, p. 128, there's supposed to be a deed from William Johnson to Sam on 28 Sep 1780; but I've never been able to locate the original on microfilm. Does any other researcher have the details? Nancy
