    2. For cemeteries, I would recommend USGS topographic maps. However, a word of caution: The USGS maps for McLennan County TX show just over 50 cemeteries -- the Cemetery Interest Group at the Waco-McLennan County Library has discovered over 300 cemeteries in this county. Many were already lost or abandoned when the USGS maps were made. Here's another idea for you.... I have purchased several county-level maps from historical societies. They often have the name of the land owners, geographic features, roads, mines, etc. If you cannot locate a cemetery, these might give you an idea where to start looking (old population centers). For example, I believe Wythe County Historical Society sells maps for a few counties (or they had a link to a statewide Historical Society that sold them). These are interesting and nice to look at...but may not have all the features you want (such as cemeteries). Happy Hunting!
