I just added the 1782 tax list for Charlotte, Sussex and Warwick Counties in Virginia to my web site. As I did not have a tax list section I put these in the Census section of the web site. These came from the books that the Census Bureau published in 1908 on the 1790 Census. Because the 1790 Census for Virginia was burned by the British in the war of 1812 these were published in place of the census. http://www.rays-place.com Cheers Ray Brown
I have researched any number of individuals who were "substitutes" in both Amer. Rev. War and the Civil War. Best guess about why one person went than another probably had to do with hardship on the entire family unit.
