This question may have been asked before, but I'm new to the list; so I ask again: In the 1782 Tax List of Buckingham County, there were three Ferguson's listed - John, Obediah and Joel. Does anyone know if they were related, and if so, how? Thanks to anyone who answers. June Henson
Mike, The index in "The Old Free State-History of Lunenburg Co. Va and Southside Va" by Bell. has a long list for surname Cralle. Crawley surname has six. Page 283 Section II has a marriage for a Kenner Cralle to Ann (or Nancy) -no date. She was daughter of William Hatchett (will dated Aug 16, 1821), probated in Lunenburg Co, Dec 10, 1821 of Lunenburg Co. He a son of William and Margaret (Remay) Hatchett., married twice: 1st Elizabeth Farmer, 2nd Isabella Ann___ and had these children by which wife unknown; John, Haynie, Archibald, George, Ann (Nancy),Elizabeth. Page 434; Marriage -Thomas Cralle and Polly Farley Feb 14, 1801 These are the only two entries for a Thomas Cralle and Kenner Cralle. There is more information on the ancestry of William Hatchett, father of Ann who married Kenner Cralle. If you don't have this book, your library probably does. No matter your beliefs in the subject, your ancestors - and folks even down to now - were concerned with and usually believed in ghosts, haunting, spirits, apparitions, etc. None less than Cotton Mather, who wrote that the native New England Indians "...consorted with demons..." This site is interesting in that regard. Paul http://theshadowlands.net/places/
Dear Paul, Another researcher recently sent me a listing from a census that had the abbreviation MIY next to the names of a man and his wife who were living in the brother's household in 1850. Do you know what MIY stands for in this situation? Donna Pultz OSCI NN, VA http://www.picturetrail.com/donnapultz
Hi, Pat and all. What is remarkable is that someone or some group took the time and dedicated the efforts needed to put together the stories before those were lost to the centuries. Gone With the Wind was only in a most remote way characteristic of even the very wealthy !! That said, as we know, most of the lower class and what few of the middle class there were all aspired to achieve the lifestyles they imagined of the wealthy. ----- Original Message ----- From: GREENWPAT@aol.com To: pauldrake@charter.net Sent: Tuesday, October 25, 2005 9:26 AM Subject: Re: [VA-SOUTHSIDE-L] Revealing slave reminiscence In a message dated 10/22/2005 1:35:49 P.M.
