I've researched the Wilborn/Wilbourne family for more years than I care to count.... The family you listed is "put together".... There is no definitive proof of Richard Wilborn (1 or 2) being kin to the John Wilborn you have listed as the 3rd generation. Also there is no proof that a John Wilborn ever married a Sarah Chapman....no one knows where this information came from....it appeared on earth on the Internet one day....and everybody thinks it's carved in stone and when you question it no one will reply to your emails or they just say "someone on the Internet told me" If any one has proof of this marriage PLEASE let me know!! John Wilborn, Jr died 1819 and his will is in Deed Book 18, page 180 Mecklenburg Co VA. He mentions his wife Sarah... Their ten known children: 1. Achilles married Eady Harde. He was born ca 1777 this date was determined by the Personal Property Tax records of Mecklenburg Co Va. 2. Thomas married Phebe Moore 3. Sally Wilborn 4. John Wilborn m Martha "Patsy" Smith 5. William Wilborn married "Milly" 6. Nancy Wilborn married Vincent Hite, son of Stanley Hite 7. Susannah Wilborn married Obadiah Smith 8. Delphia Wilborn married George Smith 9. Edith Wilborn married Obadiah Overby, Jr 10. Rebecca Wilborn I've also researched Gunnery & Judith Wilborne's family...to eliminate them from mine. His land was divided in 1800 Halifax Co VA Pleas book 19 page 381 into 8 parcels 1 Jane Wilborne and Richard Ligon (married Mecklenburg Co VA 1798) 2 Obadiah and Elizabeth Martin Wilborne (Halifax 1805) 3 Nancy Wilborne (no husband listed) 4 Robert and Patsy Ligon Wilborne (Halifax 1802) 5 Williams and Rebecca Owen Wilborne (Halifax 1807) 6 Sally and Charles Allen 7 Thomas Wilborne married Susannah Ligon 1799 Mecklenburg co VA 8 John Wilborne (married Judith Martin in 1804 Halifax Co VA) Wish I could hook your Henderson Wade to my folks, John and Sarah (maiden name unknown) Wilborn....but I can"t. Want to thank Southside Rootsweb for allowing me to search Wilborne for 7 yrs. In the late 1900s I corresponded with a Mr. Hite from the Halifax area. His ancestor Stanley Hite, was a neighbor of Robert Wade Sr. He remarked that his Nancy Hite m. a Wilborne. Turns out, his Nancy and my Elizabeth were "Sisters".perhaps someone has one of these lines. Lost his address. I would like to add: Henderson Wade Sr. was the grandson of Andrew Wade Sr., that helped Robert Wade Sr., son Hampton Wade Sr. and 2-3? more men to organize Halifax Co VA in Hampton's living room. Dear Ellie, Thomas Claiborne of Romancoke, in then New Kent County, 1647-1683, son of William Claiborne and his wife, Elizabeth (Boteler/Butler) Claiborne. He married Sarah Fenn, daughter of Samuel and Dorothy Fenn, "with whom he conveyed to Otho Thorpe the Fenn plntation at Middle Plantation, excepting two acres on which the parish church of Bruton lieth." The quotes are from the 4th edition of Dorman's ADVENTURERS OF PURSE AND PERSON. It is also in the 3rd edition. I have a copy of the small booklet about Bruton Parish Church, but I find few names of anyone who is buried there. Obviously the land on which the church lieth belonged to the Fenn family. Do you show any Fenns, Thorpes or Claibornes who were buried there? The Claibornes and Fenns were my ancestors. I should appreciate the kindness of your reply. Janelle Via McKown
For your reference purposes, the composer/author of the map I posted re the "Borden grant" was J. R. Another thing to watch for is fading of earlier printed work...... I got my 1st computer & printer about 1990. I typed frantically for days and weeks, transcribing my notes into the new miracle medium. When a bunch of notes had been typed in, I printed them, filed them, and burned the handwritten ones. Thank goodness, my fingers ran out of steam before I'd made my way thru more than a quarter of my collection. A few weeks ago I needed to look up an obscure reference that I remembered typing into that early computer. When I looked at the computer generated print, I could barely read it. It had been printed on a dot matrix and the original black ink was faded to a pale, pale blue. The print had been in a dark, dry file cabinet. Typical of of early dot matrix ribbons? Thank goodness I'd had the good sense to heed the warning, back it up, back it up, back it up. I still have those backed up floppies and the info on them is still intact. Don't know if that's typical or just good luck. With each new computer I've gotten since then, I've had a 3.5" floppy drive installed. Amazing how many computer shops think its a waste of time. just a thought annie

Great advice for all of us from Ernie: Paul ----- Original Message ----- From: Ernie Kent To: Paul Drake Sent: Thursday, January 12, 2006 11:00 AM Subject: Re: [OHPICKAW] Re: CD's Paul, As a professional webmaster I would also add the following considerations: 1. Anything on a web server is stored on a hard disk and those blow out every few years of operation. 2. If hosted on a professional hosting service there are (hopefully) tape backups, but those too are subject to problems and may be missing, not made, or damaged in writing. Further, if there is a fire, probably both the disk drives and the backup tapes are lost. I've too often lost a client's web site to a disk failure only to find the host's backups were bad or non-existant. 3. If the domain name expires (usually renewed annually) you can only access the site through the IP number. If the host changes the machine ( a frequent occurance) the IP number changes. You could wind up with your data intact but no way to access it. My own personal solution is to put everything on CDs, along with copies of the programs and operating systems required to read that data. (The programs and operating systems we used ten years ago are generally no longer available.) If the technology moves beyond CDs I will move my data to the new technology. I should (but am as yet too lazy) keep copies of the CDs in my bank vault against the possibility of fire. Best, Ernie Kent
This information is VERY important to all of us. In prior writings it often has been said that your small discs and hard drive have a relatively SHORT life, though a tad longer than these burnable discs. In short, we all should buy some archival paper and print out for storage everything we have done that will be of value at any time in the future. http://msn.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,124312,00.asp?GT1=7645 Genealogy without documentation is nothing. If you want to archive your genealogy or other data storage on a CD, you want the CD to last beyond the two or three year life span of some brands. For a short, easy-to-read article on the life spans of CDs go to: http://www.practicalpc.co.uk/computing/storage/cdrlifespan.htm This is an area where you really need to educate yourself. Good Evening Have you considered getting in touch with the historian for the Va Baptist Association? Doug
Paul: Thank you very much. I found this term used repeatedly by someone in a family history book and became awfully confused. I'm searching for any info on Samuel (Col.) Drake. I believe him to have been born around 1790. He had a daughter Francis A Drake b. 1812 who married Joseph W D Creath in VA. They then left for TX to be Baptist Missionaries there.

Hi, Tree Mother. "Dividend land" had no precise meaning and was simply any land that had been a part of an immediately prior patent. Thus, if by his will you had gained 50 acres of a patent that had issued to your father, you might describe that tract as "dividend land" Genealogy without documentation is nothing.
