    3. Hi Doris, I'm looking for a couple of Greens who married into my kines in the Buckingham County area.Maybe you can help. Mary (Mollie) Green married Overton Baker - supposedly had a dau Elizabeth Harris Baker b 1786 - any otherinfo (dates, locations, ancestors, siblings ) would be useful. Spicie ( I don't know what that might be short for) Green married Samuel Spencer. Their son ( or grandson, or g grandson) was William T. Spencer b 1774. This would have been along the James in eitheer present day Buckingham or Nelson counties. Depending on date could be Henrico, Goochland, Albemarle, Amherst, Buckingham, Nelson counties. Which Samuel (or a date) she married wold be helpful. Thanks, Rob Ayres -----Original Message----- From: D.J.Peirce <ginlu@home.com> To: VA-SOUTHSIDE-L@rootsweb.com <VA-SOUTHSIDE-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, July 25, 2001 10:32 PM Subject: [VA-SOUTHSIDE-L] Green, Scott, Davis, etc...... >I wonder if anyone on the list might be researching my lines:::::: >GREEN......Thomas Green, b. c1725, VA, m. One is the Jones Genealogical Collection in Lynchburg, Va. which is attached to the main public library there, but operates on a different schedule: 1-9 Tuesdays; 1-9 W-F; 9-1 on Saturdays. Another is the Va-NC Genealogical Society collection housed in the Danville Public Library; I would suggest calling in advance as they operate with volunteers and the schedule changes: 1-804-799-5195. Hope this gives some help. John Fox Winston-Salem, NC

    3. There may not be a "best" place to research in VA. That is probably a matter of opinion. One thing I would suggest is to search the online catalog for the Family History Library in SLC. http://familysearch.org Search by state, and by county for materials that have been put on film. Also search by your surnames. You can order the films or microfiche in to your local FHC. The Library has a huge amount of material on Virginia, and not all of it is on film or fiche, but more is being filmed every day. It is a great resource. Tell us what families you are researching in VA and maybe someone on the list can point you in the right direction for more help. Teresa

    3. When I was researching at the LV in Richmond, one of the ladies who worked there said in her opinion that the LDS Family center, less than 2 blocks away had better materials than they did. ... Everyone don't leap...that is just what she said. We did not have time to go anyway, as we were scheduled to drive back to AL. They are extremely short of help, so any advanced preparation you can do is to your advantage. Margaret

    1. [VA-SOUTHSIDE-L] Richard Corn in burial site off Road #685 in Patrick County, VA
    2. Yesterday in company with some Corns from Missouri we visited a burial site in Patrick County just north of Russell Creek and off Road 685 (a very short road off Road #825 and Road #654. The man who showed us the site across from his home has lived there 31 years and in that time has never seen anyone looking for or at any of the graves. Only one or two headstone was still erect, and many of those fallen are broken with more with either no inscription or illegible. We could only read four and include in this was an inscribed headstone for-- "Richard Corn - March 16, 1829 died March 27, 1891 Age 62 yrs 11 mos." Can anyone tell me about Richard Corn other than he married Naomi Ingram of Franklin County and they lived in the Russell Creek area, leaving many descendants? - [p. 319 History of Patrick County, Virginia]. Or does anyone know any information about this abandoned burial site? Larry

    3. Let's see. Brunswick county was formed in 1720 from parts of Prince George county, Isle of Wight county and Surry county. Prince George was formed in 1703 from Charles City. Surry from James City, in 1652. Greensville county was formed in 1780 from Brunswick and Sussex counties. Sussex was formed from Surry in 1753. Halifax was formed in 1752 from Lunenberg county (which was formed in 1746 from Brunswick). I cannot pretend to know this off the top of my head. This information can easily be found at several web sites on Virginia county formation.
