    3. #26 and #27 on this list may assist anyone seeking Confederates held in Union prisons during the Civil War. The Natl. Archives have these records, of course, as does LDS, and the branches of NARA that do not have the film are able to gain it for the researcher, or so I am told. This list is of the Birmingham library, where it is available. Paul http://members.aol.com/mapurdy16/Bham.htm#26

    2. The Library of Va. has pension applications online. Go to www.lva.lib.va.us, click on What we have, then military records. I can't remember if it's just the card index or the actual application. Good luck. My great grandmother in Virginia was granted a pension in 1908. My great grandfather had served in a Virginia regiment during the Civil War and died of causes unrelated to the War in 1904. I am interested in what qualified her for this pension. Especially, did their marriage have to take place prior to the end of the War. >>

    3. I have noticed that many newcomers barely know of marriage bonds, much less utilize that very valuable sources. Though variations from state/colony to state/colony are found, the following TN and then general listing of materials concerning bonds will help everybody, perhaps. If you use Google, search for "Marriage Bonds" and list the county and state needed. You will find thousands and even more at the pay-for-genealogy sites which I do not use. http://www.tngenweb.org/law/bond.htm http://www.google.com/search?q=+%22marriage+bonds%22&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&as_qdr=all&start=150&sa=N
