    3. Noted with interest your listing of creeks in Lunenburg County, VA. Just west of Lunenburg, VA is Couches creek where I believe my ancestor settled on land he received through letters of patents about 1720. Couches creek may have earlier been called Pine Lick Branch. In feed into the north fork of the Merherin river. Does anyone know any history of Couches creek or of Thomas & Elizabeth Couch, Thomas Couch Jr, James Couch, William Couch, John Couch or Edward Couch who lived there in what is now Lunenburg County, VA from 1720 until about 1750 (earlier Prince George and Brunswick Counties, VA)? These Couches moved on to Orange County, North Carolina. Robert H. 3. Yes! Wards Creek is named for Richard Ward who patented land in 1746 Brunswick Co. then.1748 into Lunenburg Co. in 1753 Land is in Amelia Co. The problem I am having is these early counties changed lines ever year.So one would register there deeds in that County and next year be in a different Tithable Tax list:: Example is Richard Ward comes back into Lunenburg CO. in 175?? and a few others that lived on the South side of Wards Creek, but not all of them.Looks like they moved back in but they Didn't they just switched counties (LOL) still living on Wards Creek the whole time. Paschall Greenhill is on the deeds by the Richard Wards I don't have my info with me right now>>>Another Greenhill on the Titahable list of Henry County is Beside WIlliam Johnson in 1782 THe Ward Family and My Hatcher family are so intermarried to cousins::: Elam,Farmers,Trent,Burton Stovall,Osbourne,Goode,Allen,Robertson you cann't tell which one is where (LOL) same naming patterns. Back to Sandy Creek I have it in 5 countieis in a 10 year period, makes by head spin on that One.(LOL) Chestnut Creek in 1787 or 89 is in Henry Co. Va. per deeds found there. If Greenhill is one of your Surnames I do have a few questions on them??? Also Brunswick and Lunenburg are the First Two Counties formed:: All the other Counties Mentioned are Children of these Two. Again it gives you the imprssion folks moved, when in reality they didn't the County Lines Changed on them. What is interesting is a 1738 map of Brunswick CO. and then lay it over the Same size 1776 Map>>> Get some real different County Formations then what one reads about. James Greenhill married one Susanna Haile b. abt 1720::: Sarah Haile is one of My Kinsman ( Cousin Lines) I haven't explored this ( until now) The hailes are intermarried into my Hatchers. 1. [VA-SOUTHSIDE-L] CHAPPELL/YOUNGER, Peter & Allie Halifax CO. VA 1870 > 1900
    2. Greetings, I am an Afro-American. My G-Grand parents were Peter and Allie/Alice Chappell of Halifax Co. Va. Christopher Carlton a white slave holder died in 1824 (probably in King + Queen County) Va. In his will Christopher willed to his daughter Polly Carlton "one Negro Esther and her future increase." Dolly died July 7, 1858, without leaving husband, or children. In Jan of 1859 the increase of "one Negro Esther," the slave willed to Polly Carlton were bought by Joel Younger from Pollys surviving siblings and the children of Polly's dead siblings for $1,500 dollars. "One Negro Esther" was mentioned in the papers only to establish that Joel was purchasing her "future increase" (I am assuming that Esther was then dead). That sum of $1,500, bought my g-grand mother Allie and her children, Willis, Daniel (my grandfather ), Eppa, George, and Henry. Joel Younger had in fact had possession of Allie before he officially bought her in 1859, because I found in "Slave Birth Records," Allie giving birth to three of her children, in 1853, 1855, and 1858, with the owner listed as Joel Younger. In the 1870 Census for Halifax Co. VA, Peter aged 40y and Allie aged 35 were found with the following children: Willis 20y. George, 15y, Henry 13y, Peter (Lee) 12y, Doctor 10y, Davis 9y, Bell 7y, Willy Ann 5y, Edward 3y, and Horace 6mo. Daniel, son of Peter & Allie and my grandfather using the surname Younger, was living nearby with his wife Sue. In 1880 I again find Peter 50y, and Allie/Alice 50 y, with children Bell 18y, Willie 16, Doctor 20, Lee (Peter) 22y, Henry 23y, Eppy 24y, Edward 12y, Horace (Braxton) 11y, Milly 7y, and Corer 4y. Other than the births of children to Allie in 1853, 1855 and 1858, and the sale of she and her children, I found no other records whatsoever of Peter or Allie before 1859, or after 1900 . Peter was found in the Personal Property Tax list up till 1899, but was missing from the 1900 tax list, so I assume he died between 1899 and 1900. Allie, wife of Peter was missing from the 1900 Census, so I assume that she too was dead by 1900. I don't know yet where Peter the hubby of Allie came from, or how they wound up with the name Chappell. Perhaps Joel Younger, who held 35 slaves in 1860, bought Peter from a Chappell family.
