    3. Gregg Bonner has been answering some DNA questions on the Harris Hunters mail list. And other subscribers have been chiming in. Go to the Rootsweb archives if you are interested in some of that discussion.....However, I wanted to share with our mail list the idea that the discussion caused to pop into my head this morning. For our Northern Neck FF group, it is possible that we should find the oldest representatives of our lines that we can find to do the FF test rather than ourselves if we are under 80. I am thinking about the possibility that my father's DNA might turn up matches that my FF would not turn up because my own DNA would be influenced by my mother's DNA which may or may not have connections to Northern Neck....What is your opinion on this? marsha moses

    3. Marsha You are absolutely right, but I need to tweak your reasoning a little. Your own DNA is not "influenced" at all by your Mom's very independent contribution. Your Dad's DNA in you is not changed in any way by your Mom's. However, you only got half of your Dad's DNA, and of course he has all of it. So he would certainly get more matches on his side than you would. AND, it would get his DNA on file. Years from now, you may want to run an even better test on his DNA. FYI FTDNA just developed a whole genome DNA test for $6,000. The price is expected to drop to $1,000 in a few short years. When you've had that test, there ain't no more...
