    1. [VA-NORTHERN-NECK] Help with a bastard CHINN

    3. My search has led me to a Christopher CHINN who married 17 Dec 1779 Montgomery Co, MD Ann BARTLETT. This may well be Nancy Anne BARTLETT, daughter of my ancestor, Thomas BARTLETT c1733-1806 born in Richmond Co, VA; and in northern Fauquier Co 1769 to 1785. From the transcript of a Bible (now lost) we know that Nancy Anne BARTLETT was born 12 Jan 1764, the twin of Benjamin BARTLETT. This would mean she was 15, almost 16, at the time of the marriage. The fact that the marriage was in Montgomery Co, MD indicates to me that Christopher and Anne probably eloped (and probably Anne was pregnant). Eloping to MD was not uncommon. Marrying at 15/16 was not uncommon either - Anne's older brother, William, married Sarah HATHAWAY when she was about 15 or 16. 1784 Loudoun Co, VA Deed by Christopher CHINN (s/o Elijah CHINN dec'd) &wife Nancy of Ldn to John Peyton HARRISON of Fauquier... 250ac in Ldn and Fauquier bequeathed to Elijah CHINN by brother Christopher CHINN dec'd, adj Charles CHINN ... 1797 Fayette Co, KY Indenture: Thomas HALL and Anne HALL, his wife, late Anne CHINN, of Nelson Co, KY to Walker BAYLOR of Fayette Co .... Whereas Christopher CHINN died possessed of 500 ac of land in Fayette Co, part of George BRYAN's settlement and preemption, and Christopher CHINN did bequeath to his said wife Anne CHINN, now Anne HALL, 1/3 part of 350 ac of the said 500 ac ... etc. 1798 Harrison Co, VA; Deed Thomas BARTLETT to his daughter Anne HALL of Nelson Co, KY ... a negro woman named Abigail, then to her daughter Elizabeth HALL... [in the last decade of his life - 1796-1806 - Thomas BARTLETT deeded land and slaves to most of his children] So my question is: is this Christopher CHINN the son of Elijah-3 CHINN (Rawleigh-2, John-1)? It looks that way in our NN Tree, and I could then add the BARTLETT link, based on the records above. If so, I need to find some descendants to join our NN DNA Project... Thanks for any feedback Jim Bartlett

    3. Jim, it would indeed certainly appear. There was another Christopher -4 Chinn (son of Charles-3 Chinn) of Fauquier County. But Elijah-3 Chinn was of Loudoun County and given the deed you recite below, this seems to be the logical placement. Still you should try to weed out/rule out this other Christopher Chinn to be sure. Either way, welcome to the scandalous world of the Chinns and Balls.
