    3. David, I fear we're straying far from our safe harbor called the Northern Neck by getting into the Carterets of both New Jersey and North Carolina. They were deeply involved in both colonies, to be sure. I was not suggesting any sort of familial ties between Claud Vallott and the Carterets, though his employment with one of them in very important matters (in New Jersey) at a tender age certainly opens up that door for further investigation. The only thing I now know as fact is that he was indeed from the Province of Champagne. I have not been able to find any records for that area on line (neither familysearch.org nor ancestry.com) It was also suggested to me that I should look at the Channel Isles for a possible connect. Didn't really mean to open up Pandora's Box. Just to say when we hit a brick wall, it pays to start looking further and wider.
