My ancestor Thomas BARTLETT c1733-1806 passed through Fauquier Co 1769-1785 (he had several sons who served there in the RevWar). He moved to Harrison Co, (W)VA in 1785, and I've documented over 10,000 of his descendants. You and John Gott provided a lot of clues that helped me determine his ancestor was Thomas BARTLETT c1705-1783 of Richmond Co, VA. Since then we've found matching DNA from 4 of Thos Sr's 5 sons - one who stayed in Richmond Co, and three who went to Fauquier Co, VA, Culpeper Co, VA and Pendleton Dist, SC. I also descend from Sylvester WELCH b 1696 Northumberland Co, VA who married Anne SPENCE. From my records, Anne SPENCE was daughter of David SPENCE 1666-1726 of Northumberland Co, VA and Sarah DOWNING 1665-early 1700s. I have not done much original research on the DOWNINGs, but have that Sarah was dau of John B DOWNING and his second wife Elizabeth HUGHLETT, both of Northumberland Co, VA. I'll stop there in case I don't have these links correct. I would appreciate being linked with other DOWNING descendants. I have an office mate at NIST who has done DOWNING Y-DNA... With Family Finder DNA I have linked DNA through over 200 of my ancestors, but few in the NN. I do have two DNA cousins who share common ancestry with me back to Elizabeth WELCH b 1777 (probably Fauquier Co, VA). She descends from Sylvester WELCH above, but I cannot link any of the other WELCHs through DNA, yet. Would appreciate any corrections or additions.
