Craig, Glad this was helpful and hope it yields more good news for you. It will be interesting to review the original record and see if the surname really was Marr. Fwiw, the Clerk of Court in the Craven County (from the record) was Christopher Neale, who I am sure is related to the Northern Neck Neale family. Also, my Carruthers family that stems from William Carruthers who died in Westmoreland Co., VA c.1705 ended up (eventually) in Craven Co., NC as well. Thanks. John Berry & wife Jemima in Craven County, NC in 1765. Who'd a thunk it? While John Berry is rather common, having a wife Jemima is beyond coincidence. Thank you for finding this. It is the first real break-through anyone has made on this family that ends up in Culpeper County VA. David, Agreed. It's a GREAT lead. I will be in NC for several weeks either at the end of October of first part of November. I will be helping a cousin set up her incredible new library outside of Chapel Hill . More on all that later--it isn't really all gelled yet. This definitely goes on the "to do" list. In the meantime, if I can find the time, I will be working on BERRY records in the Northern Neck. The main group was in Westmoreland County. How on earth you dug up an 11-year old email is beyond me, but THANK YOU for sending it. I am used to people moving from Virginia to North Carolina, but not the other way around. On the other hand, I only recently learned that Claud Vallott aka Champagne moved to Virginia from New Jersey in the 1600s. Never would have thought of looking for him there either. I think a big lesson here, and Fred Duncan made an excellent point today, is to really look at other colonies. If they show up out of nowhere, and or end up disappearing into nowhere, you can be pretty sure there is a reason why.
