    1. [VA-NORTHERN-NECK] John Jordan & Patrick Spence widow, Dorcas
    2. Fred Duncan
    3. I have a question for the group: Dorcas Spence, widow of Patrick Spence, married John Jordan. Dorcas' daugther, by Patrick Spence, married Andrew Monroe II & the "Spence" name descends down through President James Monroe family. I have been attempting to find out something about this John Jordan - Where he came from, etc.??? He was said to be a man of some wealth. I have Wills for both John (1694) & later Dorcas Spence Jordan(1708). In the Wills there is a connection to, Spence children, Monroe, Sturman, Weedon, Steel, John Washington, Higgins, Lawrence Pope and a later court case involving Waddy, Sturman & Jordan estate. Also, referenced in the John Jordan Will = ....."Unto my son John Spence £25 sterling which I have in England in *Mr. William Briscoe’s* executors’ or administrators’ hands or in Mr. John Scott’s hand"..... There was a Jordan family in the Jamestown area and a William Briscoe showing up in records there. But I have also been tracking a Jordan family in New England that I'm wondering if connects to the NN (maybe Jamestown area, as well). The New England Jordan family were married into an early (1635) Nathaniel Duncan family in the Boston, Mass. area. Nathaniel had a son, Peter (who married a Mary "Eppes" ) and another son, Nathaniel Duncan Jr., dealing with a David Selleck, Merchant, in Boston on the sale of a ship, Adventure, in Va.. David Selleck was dealing with several folks in NN area (John Hallowes, Cornelius Lloyd, Thomas Owen, to name a few) Also, in Westmoreland orders 1698-1705 p 30a, there is a record of a Thomas Steel "of New England, merchant" affirmed that John "Higgins" brought and purchased from him an Indian man named Robin, which Indian man Steel brought from Jamaica into the Colony. In 1646 Selleck was also dealing with John Manning of Boston, Merchant, who was dealing with Isaac Allerton "of Newhaven" merchant who was dealing with Thomas Bushrode of Virginia. David Selleck died at sea (circa 1654)off the coast of Northampton Co Va, while in Va. collecting Tobacco to ship to England. Robert Tilghman married widow of Selleck around 1655 in Northampton Co Va. In 1655 Robert Tilghman made claim against estate of Capt. Stephen Charlton, who is said to have imported Peter Duncan (later in Westmoreland by mid 1650. My interest in all this = 5/28/1679 p 154 Dorman 2 Patrick Spence and Matthew Steel stood security with John Duncan 400000 pounds of tobacco in the settlement of Peter Duncan estate. So, question is : has anyone out there run this Jordan Rabbit before ? -- Fred Duncan
