Thanks Kathleen. Do you happen to have any information as to the parents of this Alexander Newman? I'm curious if he is related somehow to Patience Newman who married John Ford and Mary Newman who married Andrew Morton, Jr. Patience and Mary also had a sibling named Thomas. I keep a kind of loose data base that has Newmans and Fords and Mortons in it. I have a Thomas Newman married to an Elizabeth Morton who have children born circa 1740. Is this the same Thomas? In my "loose" data base I have the following information about Thomas and Elizabeth Morton Newman's son: Alexander?/Reuben? who married Jane Bourne. This couple was first cousins as Alexander’s mother was Elizabeth Morton Newman--sister to Jane Morton Bourne. The Source is the will of Andrew Bourne read in Gilmore-Carter and allied families by Helen Gilmore Smith Thomas Same People? Thanks Marsha. Yes, I would think this would be the same family although perhaps a generation or two later than the family I'm wondering about. I don't really have anything solid. Elizabeth (Morton) Lattimore Bledsoe left a will about 1708 (working from memory) in which she named son Richard Lattimore and granddaughters Mary Berry & Winifred Nelms. The Berry surname is what struck me as I have an ancestor Thomas Berry born c.1682 who married a woman named Patience (MNU). Also, my Thomas Berry family seems to have been associated with this Richard Lattimore. Then, to top it off, I learned that Elizabeth (Morton) Lattimore Bledsoe had a sister-in-law (think this is the correct relationship) named Mary Newman and that Mary Newman's sister was named Patience (which led me to speculate if Thomas Berry's wife is possibly connected to this same Newman family somehow). I could be wrong, but Patience does not seem to have been a common name in the Northern Neck in the late 1600's and early 1700's (it was found in the Downing family though).
