Craig, No problem at all. It helped with Jemima being a somewhat unique name as I don't think I would have found this record if her name was Mary or Elizabeth :) Also, if you want to expedite things, you could contact the Craven County Library (Victor Jones) as he may be able to look up that record for you. I've talked to Victor Jones a few times, and he has always been willing to help me out on Rice/Carruthers family questions. It's a GREAT lead. I will be in NC for several weeks either at the end of October of first part of November. I will be helping a cousin set up her incredible new library outside of Chapel Hill . More on all that later--it isn't really all gelled yet. This definitely goes on the "to do" list. In the meantime, if I can find the time, I will be working on BERRY records in the Northern Neck. The main group was in Westmoreland County. How on earth you dug up an 11-year old email is beyond me, but THANK YOU for sending it. I am used to people moving from Virginia to North Carolina, but not the other way around. On the other hand, I only recently learned that Claud Vallott aka Champagne moved to Virginia from New Jersey in the 1600s. Never would have thought of looking for him there either. I think a big lesson here, and Fred Duncan made an excellent point today, is to really look at other colonies. If they show up out of nowhere, and or end up disappearing into nowhere, you can be pretty sure there is a reason why. David, Thank you--AGAIN! This will be most interesting to see how it pans out. They will have to build a statue in your honor at the Germanna Foundation if this all pans out. John & Jemima had 11 children named in his will. One of them -- Juriah -- married Adam Yager, Jr. and had 10 chlldren. But, I'm getting off topic here. I will contact Mr. Jones tomorrow. Thanks for the lead. Craig On Sep 22, 2011, at 10:25 PM, DAVID BROWN wrote: > Craig, > > No problem at all. Thanks Craig. I really do hope this lead pans out. You never know where these clues lead!
