    1. Re: [VA-NORTHERN-NECK] Mary Conway and James Ball
    2. Craig Kilby
    3. Mike, this is correct. She was the daughter of Maj. James Ball of Bewdley and his 2nd wife Mary Conway. This brings up two omissions in both Peggy Hill's book and Ida J. Lee's abstract of the will of James Ball. It is true that James Ball's 1754 will names on one Selden grandson: John to whom land in [then] Prince William County, and that is the only Peggy Hill lists for this couple. However, the 1771 will of Richard Selden names three sons: James, John and Richard (who m. Elizabeth CHINN, d/o John Chinn & Sarah Yates.). To sons John and Richard, he leaves 1,000 of land in Fauquier County (formed 1759 from Pr. William) "left to him by his grandfather Major James Ball." by "him" he means his son John Selden. Richard is probably entitled to a share since other language in this will refers to a marriage contract between himself and Col James Ball "in behalf of our children. and this implies that James Selden was a son by previous marriage. This contract is also referred to in the will of of Sarah Ball you cite below. I am assuming the 1742 will of Sarah Ball is for Sarah (Young) Ball, widow of Richard-3 Ball.
