I know it's a common name but I do have one but don't know where he is from exactly but maybe the spousal names could help. John Edwards s/o Wm. Edwards and Unk Harrison Wife Jane Arrington Daughter Elizabeth Edwards m. 1737 to William Valentine King of Stafford/Halifax Co's. Susan Carter's association to Richard Merryman and the Merryman/Merriman's Payne association. Long shots and many families involved here but just thought I'd throw out the Edwards possible associations. Searching collateral lines always helps complete the circle. Va With the permission of Mike Marshall, I'm forwarding this one along to our group. I don't know the answer to his question. I know of Thomas Carter and John Carter, but not this early William Carter. Can anyone help with this? Good morning, all The below is a good example of why it is important to change subject lines. I am not casting any aspersions, and I am as guilty as anyone about this, but read below thread: This started off about William Carter, d. 1662 and ends up talking about Dr. John Edwards. But the name of the thread (subject line) was not changed. How would one find the name of Edwards using the archives of this list? Answer: you wouldn't. Also, I am quickly learning that limiting the size of a post to 5kb may be a good idea. I have let pass through five posts this morning that exceed the limit. The main reason why these posts exceed that limit was due to repeating and including what had already been said in previous posts plus rootsweb trailers. The lesson here is to TRIM irrelevant material. This is especially true in the case for those using the DIGEST mode. It is really irritating for those on DIGEST to have to wade through the same material over an over. Those on LIST mode (one post at a time) don't see this aggravation because they are following (or deleting) the posts in more or less real time. Point being: MYSELF INCLUDED, trim down, trim down, trim down. Or, as Sgt. Joe Friday used to say, "Just the facts Ma'am, just the facts." Craig P.S. I am pretty sure this email will BOUNCE but I am going to let it go through as an example of how things get "messed up." As I said, I am guilty as anyone sometimes. The culprit here is not trimming and getting to "just the facts" AND changing subject lines.
