In the name of God, Amen, the 16th day of August, 1700, I, THOMAS CARTER , Senr. of the County of Lancaster, being sick in body but of god and perfect memory thanks be to Almighty God, etc, etc. And now for the settling of my temporal Estate and such goods, chattels and debts as it hath pleased God , etc. etc. Item; I doe give unto my son, EDWARD CARTER, one hundred ackers of land to him and his heires forever but if it soe be the sd Edwd. will not john with his Brors; within thee months after my decease to pay equall charge for laying it our and lett his Mother have wt timber she shall have occation of for repairing houses and fences on my now dwelling Plantacon during her life, that then he shall have no benefitt of it, but I doe give it to my son, John Carter, to him and his heires for ever; Item; I doe give onto my son, JOHN CARTER, one hundred ackers of land to him and his heires for ever, only reserving the same privilidge to my WIFE, as in the other two items. Item; I doe give my Negro Dick unto my loving wife, KATHRINE during her naturall life and then to be devided amongst all the rest of my children only my Son Edwd to hanve no share of him. Item; I doe give all my personall Estate wt';soever els to be divided amongst my loving Wife and Children, only reserving the great Table to my Wife. Whereas my Son in Law reced. fifteen hundred and suxty pounds of tobacco in part of wt. Estate his grandfather in Law, EDWD DALE, gave his Wife, and I having no rect. for it, and if the said WM. GEORGE will not be accountable for it, then it is my Will that he shall have now part of my Esate but only one shilling in full part of his Wifes portion. Item; I doe give onto my Sonn, THOMAS CARTER, my now Dwelling Plantacon with one hundred akers of land to it to him and his heires for ever after my now loving WIFE, KATHRINE, decease. Imprs; If is hall soe please God that my now wife shall happen to over live mee, I give unto her for her maintenance dureing her life the whole p:ffitt of my Estate whatsoever some respect being lwaies had to her as in an honest woman & gentle woman and many yeares my Wife, and after her decease, I give the plantacon whereon I now live to my two grandchildren; PETE and JOSEPH CARTER, to have and to holde to them, their heires and assignees forever; to be equally divided betweene them and in case of the mortality of either of them before they come of the age of twenty-one years, then to my grandson, JNO CARTER. Item; I give onto my two Grandsons, PETER and JOSEPH CARTER, and to my two Granddaughters, ELIZABETH CARTER and KATHERINE CARTER; all my personall Estate whatsoever to bee equally divided betweene them and in case wither of the girls happen to depart this life before their day of marriage or eighteen years of age, I give her part to the Survivor. Item; I give to my Grandson; PETER CARTER, my Negro boy, named William Rogers, twelve pence in full of all claimes whatsoever. Item; It is my desire for the bettter improveing of my Estate for the aforesaid that my Estate be continued upon the said plantacon and after my Wife be supplied with all the necessaries and the plantacon likewise yearly. I give unto my Daughter, KATHERINE, during her life the p;ffitt of all the Estate whatsoever. Item; I doe nominate and appointe my Grandson, EDWARD CARTER, and my Daughter, KATHERINE CARTER, and my Granddaughter, ELIZABETH CARTER, when she arrives to the age of Sixteene yeares of age to be my executors.
