    3. I will count this as a vote for "over reaching." I have been torn on this from the beginning (Sept 2009). However we must keep in mind: 1. Expanding the rootsweb list is probably not necessary, though I could do some out-reach to those lists on the Maryland side 2. The NN tree is not limited should editors so wish and 3. The NN tree DOES need to keep a more strict focus No rush on anything. I'm interested in what the rest of our group has to say about it. 3. Barbara That's exactly correct. For atDNA matching purposes we need to use the most robust Trees we can. When/if a match is made on a Common Ancestor which is iffy, then the two parties should share reasoning and make a reasonable call. We'll all learn using this process. Craig, we'll need to go easy as we feel our way through this new frontier. We need some slack to experiment a little, and learn from our experience. We don't have a single atDNA Common Ancestor to report yet. Jim - Sent from my iPhone - FaceTime! 3. Barbara, This is my understanding of it too. While the tree is a working document, it should not be used to repeat the same old, same old. The NN dna project, as I understand it, it too test those theories, and maybe (hopefully) come with a lot more. I am very proud of this group and our various projects. 3. Ginny, Do you belong to our Northern Neck tree on ancestry.com? All of the data for William-2 Ball is there. No need to look it up. That's been a hundred times, an this tree is an effort to give it a permanent and documented home. One of our main goals to not have to repeat all this same information over and over and over. 3. I understood the criteria for the NN dna project's patriarch list as differing from criteria for NN tree inclusion. The patriarchs as well as gedcoms uploaded to Family Tree DNA are intended to assist dna matches in locating the common ancestor. The patriarchs are not necessarily well documented or proven ancestors. (Those who aren't should not be on the NN tree.) About half of my NN patriarchs are flagged in my genealogy software as "hold" and as "candidates" and NEVER make it into my reports or trees. I included them, for reasons just stated, in the project's patriarch list and in the gedcom I uploaded to Family Tree DNA. Barbara

    3. All, This is all just so much speculation and guessing because certain names "look right." I'd be very careful about taking any of this is a fact. I sure don't want to see it on our NN tree unless there is proof of relationships. Otherwise, we are just as bad as the rest of the stuff floating around out there in cyberspace. That is not our goal. 3. Once again, an attempt at civil discourse is met with condescension and outright rudeness from our List Administrator.  I sufficiently qualified my statements in such a way that any reasonable reader would realize that I did not at all conclude any relationship whatsoever.   As for Walne, the article seems to prove the Ball family was not of Berkshire.  The author reviewed the children of Thomas Atherold and Mary Harvey, but doesn't sufficiently explore the children of Thomas Atherold, Sr. & Mary Vesey.  No conclusion can be made as to the supposed Atherold connection one way or another!!!!!!! I'm sure the List Administrator will misinterpret one of my latest statements and follow up with another rude comment.  However, this is my last word on this subject. However, I wasn’t sure how conclusive the evidence is for this marriage to Hannah Atherold, The Atherold part is not conclusive, and despite all the stuff recently posted here, it does not seem likely. I am tiring of having to repeat this, but the Robert Walne article on this topic (1959) is as far as I know the last word on this until someone proves otherwise. > and I also wasn’t entirely confident of my own data on William Ball, I as far as dates were concerned (I had more concrete data on William Ball, II who married Margaret Williamson).
