    3. Jim, I don't know that I can help you with this one, and surely someone here can, but it reminds me a very similar case for St. Clair Burbridge Kilby of Madison County, Virginia whose family ends up in Tazewell County, Illinois but he doesn't. And no record of his death in Virginia. The most usual conclusion is that he died en route. Possible? Craig P.S. BTW, This St. Clair Kilby was the ancestor of Jack St. Clair Kilby, inventor of the silicon chip for Texas Instruments. No, not my direct ancestors who did nothing so noteworthy. However, I've corresponded over the years with members of this family and they don't know where St. Clair Kilby died either. But everyone is "certain" it was in 1836--both places given as place of death in various accounts. 3. Thanks, Craig, Been working on this all day, and have one last piece of the puzzle (I hope) that maybe someone on this list can help me with. Most published ancestries of Christopher CHINN say he died 1787 Livingston, KY (not sure if this is the town in current Rockcastle Co, or the county). But in an 1809 affidavit, his brother, William CHINN, stated Christopher CHINN died in Loudoun Co, VA in 1786. I'm not quibbling over the year, but Loudoun Co, VA and KY are pretty far apart. His widow and three small children wind up in KY, and she marries Thomas HALL and they live in Nelson and Montgomery Co, KY (where they die in 1830s) So does anyone have record to indicate where Christopher CHINN died? 2. Jim Bartlett
    3. My search has led me to a Christopher CHINN who married 17 Dec 1779 Montgomery Co, MD Ann BARTLETT. This may well be Nancy Anne BARTLETT, daughter of my ancestor, Thomas BARTLETT c1733-1806 born in Richmond Co, VA; and in northern Fauquier Co 1769 to 1785. From the transcript of a Bible (now lost) we know that Nancy Anne BARTLETT was born 12 Jan 1764, the twin of Benjamin BARTLETT. This would mean she was 15, almost 16, at the time of the marriage. The fact that the marriage was in Montgomery Co, MD indicates to me that Christopher and Anne probably eloped (and probably Anne was pregnant). Eloping to MD was not uncommon. Marrying at 15/16 was not uncommon either - Anne's older brother, William, married Sarah HATHAWAY when she was about 15 or 16. 1784 Loudoun Co, VA Deed by Christopher CHINN (s/o Elijah CHINN dec'd) &wife Nancy of Ldn to John Peyton HARRISON of Fauquier... 250ac in Ldn and Fauquier bequeathed to Elijah CHINN by brother Christopher CHINN dec'd, adj Charles CHINN ... 1797 Fayette Co, KY Indenture: Thomas HALL and Anne HALL, his wife, late Anne CHINN, of Nelson Co, KY to Walker BAYLOR of Fayette Co .... Whereas Christopher CHINN died possessed of 500 ac of land in Fayette Co, part of George BRYAN's settlement and preemption, and Christopher CHINN did bequeath to his said wife Anne CHINN, now Anne HALL, 1/3 part of 350 ac of the said 500 ac ... etc. 1798 Harrison Co, VA; Deed Thomas BARTLETT to his daughter Anne HALL of Nelson Co, KY ... a negro woman named Abigail, then to her daughter Elizabeth HALL... [in the last decade of his life - 1796-1806 - Thomas BARTLETT deeded land and slaves to most of his children] So my question is: is this Christopher CHINN the son of Elijah-3 CHINN (Rawleigh-2, John-1)? It looks that way in our NN Tree, and I could then add the BARTLETT link, based on the records above. If so, I need to find some descendants to join our NN DNA Project... Thanks for any feedback Jim Bartlett

    3. In Westmoreland County Deed Book 7, p. 21 is found the inquisition into the death of poor John Sorrell, returned by coroner Benjamin Berryman and the jury. On 29 March 1721, they found that: "the body of John Sorell lying dead in the road being first sworn & charged to say the truth according to the best of their knowledge and evidence appearing but what we find by circumstance we do find that the sd John Sorrell was riding along the road & the saddle or furniture going way and back did let & cause the sd John Sorell to fall from the horse so as by the sd fall he instantly died and being charged to enquire if the horse whereof he fell was the cause of his death we do find that the horse was not in the fault…” At least the horse survived and was not found guilty of murder. 3. Marsha You are absolutely right, but I need to tweak your reasoning a little. Your own DNA is not "influenced" at all by your Mom's very independent contribution. Your Dad's DNA in you is not changed in any way by your Mom's. However, you only got half of your Dad's DNA, and of course he has all of it. So he would certainly get more matches on his side than you would. AND, it would get his DNA on file. Years from now, you may want to run an even better test on his DNA. FYI FTDNA just developed a whole genome DNA test for $6,000. The price is expected to drop to $1,000 in a few short years. When you've had that test, there ain't no more... 3. FYI to Tamara and anyone else with a Yahoo email account or AOL. These seem to be the two that get hacked all the time. You have to be careful what you click on like "sponsored links" or facebook is really bad with their games etc. Also be careful of both of their "messengers" and don't open or click on anything you don't recognize etc. The problem also is when these get out into lists like this Rootsweb list, people will click on the links and get hacked themselves. Then as happened in Tamara's case she got an email from a friend (probably also with a Yahoo account) and it just had a link and Tamara clicked on it. They often go to pharmacutical companies like in Canada or something. When in doubt you can copy/paste the link into your browser to see what it is before clicking on anything. Best remedy...... Change your password often and don't click on "just links". When you do get hacked - yes cleaning and running virus scans help always but just change your password. They have hacked your email account and that's how they got in. 3. Tamara, Thanks for spotting this so quickly and taking quick action on it. It is rare that a spam gets through to this particular rootsweb list, but if a user's email address book has been hijacked, there is no way it can know that. And yes, NEVER click on a link whose message is just "click here." URL links ARE allowed within an email. But if there is not context to them, DO NOT CLICK IT.
