    3. Can anyone tell me which county Roanoke is in? I live about two hours away from Roanoke, Virginia, but just recently came across several obits mentioning Roanoke, West Virginia. Thanks. Michele

    3. It is in Lewis County, due south of Weston.

    3. Something else to consider is that Virginia is the only state in the country that has independent cities that are NOT part of a county. For example the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area is considered the City of Norfolk, the City of Virginia Beach. Richmond is the City of Richmond - while surrounded by Henrico County.
