    3. Brian, You may be interested to know that, late in the CW, the 3d WV Cav was assigned to the Division under the command of Gen Geo. A. Custer. George's 1st cousin, James William Custer, was fighting in the 3d WV Cav earlier in the war and was KIA in May 1863, during the Jones-Imboden Raid in the Shinston area, a month before WV actually became a state. The Custer GAR Post in Clarksburg was named in James' memory, not that of his much more famous cousin. God Bless the USA!
