Alice Hi, Alice, In Earl Core's The Monongalia Story: A Bicentennial History, Volume II. The Pioneers" there is a mention of a John RIGHTMIRE on p. 497 as an 1815 major in the 104th Regiment of the Virginia Militia, a Monongalia unit which later became a Preston unit when that county was formed in 1818. A tavern was generally an inn and located on a major road, a place for a stage coach or wagoners to stop where its passengers and driver could be fed and find a bed for the night, and sometimes entertainment was included. Some were the size of a small hotel, often made of brick or stone. Regards, Jane
