Hi, Sondra, John SPENCER is not listed in Earl Core's first two books, covering that time period. However, there was a Private Joseph Spencer in Capt. Daniel Stewart's company which served from Feb. 20 to March 4 in 1815. Samuel Wiley in his 1883 "History of Monongalia County" does mention a John on p. 444. If 1826 was his year of death, this would not have been the same one. This one was a circuit riding Methodist Episcopal minister, appointed to the Redstone Circuit, Monongahela District in 1828. The only John Spencer in the census for Monongalia County appears there in 1840. Perhaps your John Spencer was actually in another county. That was a popular name! Best regards, Jane

    3. There were some Spencer's in the Asher Glade area of Garrett Co. MD, in the 1800's. This is not far from the WV. line.
