Reply to:[email protected] rootsweb.com I am seeking info on SAMUEL HANWAY born 9-26-1743 in Chester Co , Pa. In 1775 he enlisted in "VA Sea Service" in Amelia co. Va. In 1781 he went to Monongalia county and was comissioned surveyor 6-7-1781. He served in that position until 6-27-1831. He applied for pension in 1833. He died 05-02-1834 at age 91 in Morgantown and was buried in Oak Grove cemetery. This info was obtained from National Archives . I need obituary or info on any family he mayhave had.The archives have no family info on him. I believe that the Samuel Hanway , buried in Kansas, may have been his son. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Mary [email protected]
Hi Mary, There are numerous references in the index of Vol II of THE MONONGALIA STORY but none of them deal with family information. The only other Hanway listed is Jesse Hanway.
