I had received some of my great great Grandmother Anne Jane Adams Allshouse's Civil War Pension records. I purchased the remainder of Anne Jane Adams Allshouse's Civil War Pension file and had a thick file of affidavits and forms in duplicate and triplicate. I didn't know what I was looking at or what I should have been looking at so it was dumb luck to come across Catherine E Murray of Dellslow W Va Catherine made out 2 affidavits on Anne Janes behalf. In 1901 Catherine states she is Anne Janes sister this was witnessed by a Justice of the Peace named L Shumaker. In 1902 Catherine signed another affidavit witnessed by Belle Hart and S A Smith. Up til that time we knew Ann Jane had two sisters that died with her mother in 1845, but did not know their names. We knew there were supposed to have been other siblings, but we did not know their names either. Catherine E. Adams Murray born Oct 31, 1839 was married to Arthur Murray. 1870 Census for Monongalia Co Morgan Twp 89-89 Farmer Arthur Murray 30 Wv all Mulatto Catherine 25 Pa James 1 Wv Sarah 8 Wv Martha J 5 Wv Isabel 3 Wv John 1 Wv Had been in contact with a Hart researcher that said their daughter Isabel Murray married Ben Ison Hart and lived in Springhill Twp., Fayette Co., PA. She was supposedly Indian. So the Bell Hart who witnessed Catherines signature is her daughter. 1900 WV census, Monongalia Co Morgan Dist, 26th of June, by D A Anderson 294/294 Heart, Ison B (5-1/pf 5) Head White Male B Jan 1866 farmer 34 year old male Married 13 years WV WV VA Isabel Wife, White, Female b Sept 1867 32 years old mother of 4 children, 3 living WV WV WV Harvey Son W M Oct 1889 10 John M Son W M Feb 1893 7 Arthur M Son W M Apr 1894 6 Summers cemetery Monongalia Co WV Arthur J Murray Aug 6 1835 - Jan 20 1922 Civil War Vet Catherine wife of Arthur Oct 31 1839 - Aug 26 1921 Benjamin Ison Hart Jan 5 1866 - July 15 1933 Isabell M Hart Sept 22 1867 - July 14 1955 Ann Jane and Catherines parents and other siblings are our major brick wall. Their father was Samuel Douglas Adams married to Lydia Ostander/Pierce?. Ann Jane Adams Allshouses grandson told his daughter on his death bed that Lydia Adams was Shawnee from the mouth of the Youghigheny. Lydia Ostrander/Ostander/Pierce? Adams b. ? m. ? died 1845. Maiden name indicated by L.D.S index card giving Ann Jane's parents names indicated Ostrander. Then contradicted by Lds when another relative found their records indicated Lydia's daughter Anne Jane Adams Allshouse was endowed in the Mormon church for her parents (Salt Lake Tempe records #9039 Book D IVG., page 252 shows her mothers name to be Lydia Ostander Adams. Her father Samuel Douglas Adams. In 1840 Lydia was located in Pittsburgh. We do not know where Samuel, Ann Jane and her siblings were living after Lydias death, first mention of a date is in an affidavit she made when applying for her Civil War Widows pension on August 11, 1902 Ann Jane Allshouse gives her age as 65 address California Washington County Pennsylvania states she had known Finley Allshouse since 1851. Anne Jane married Finley Allshouse January 14, 1856 at Irwin Station by Rev. Conner of the M.E. Church is how it is stated on a replacement marriage certificate made out by a Justice of the Peace. Information we have indicates Ann Jane and Finley were living in California Washington Co Pa from 1857 til sometime in the 1860's. 1870 Elizabeth Twp. 1880 Forward Twp. 1900 East Pike Run Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. At this time Finley age 64 was in Jefferson Township (Fayette County), PA, with his daughter Leona Allshouse and her husband E. L.
