Subj: Ever hear of ESQUIRE RUMBAUGH? My aplolgies to those who get this twice. Hello, I'm looking for help from anyone who is familiar with marriage records in the 1860s. I am searching the counties of western Virginia for another Laizure marriage. I have heard back from the Highland County Courthouse, and they have no record of a marriage between Hiram LAIZURE and Talitha Ann WATSON. Hiram said they were married on August 1, 1866 and Talitha said they were married on August 3, 1866 by ESQUIRE RUMBAUGH. Both agree that they were married in HARD SCRABBLE, VA. Has anyone else on the list ever had a marriage in their family recorded by Esq. RUMBAUGH? Was he even in the local area in the 1860s? At this point, I have tried 3 different areas called Hard Scrabble or Scrabble for this marriage record. 1. Hardscrabble, Highland County, VA 2. Scrabble, Rappan. Co., VA 3. Scrabble, formerly Hard Scrabble, Berkeley Co., WVA. Does anyone else have any ideas where to look? I notice that Washington County, MD had a Hard Scrabble in the past. I would hope Hiram and Talitha were better at geography, than to confuse the two states, but I will be writing there next. Thanks, Sharon Hofer Ontario, California
