    3. I have often wondered if others in the family were on the ship. I haven't been able to find out the name of the ship, etc. Do you have access to immigration books? There are some in our library (Danville, IL--I live in Catlin nearby). I may try to find something (after income tax time). I see I copied several pages from Earl Core's 1974 book "The Monongalia Story." Is this the same as his first volume? I was in Clarksburg in Nov. and hope to go again in May. I'll put your name and email address in my address book to keep in touch if anything shows up. Jane McCann Walsh wrote: > At 09:34 AM 3/10/2003 -0600, you wrote: > >Thank you very much. 3. Sounds like I may have to find these books by Earl Core...How many volumes are there Jane ? Also would William Ashford possibly have gotten a Tavern liscense for John Rightmire. and then John and Anna (Ashford) Rightmire ran the tavern ? William Ashford died in 1804 in Loudoun County according to an Ashford researcher I am working with. Thanks again Alice ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jane McCann Walsh" <jmwalsh@icubed.com> To: <VA-Harrison-Monongalia-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 10, 2003 12:14 PM Subject: Re: [VA-Har-Mon] Earl Cores book > At 11:08 AM 3/10/2003 -0600, you wrote: > >Jane could you look in your book and see if you have any folks by the name > >of Ashford. Hi, Ramona, Thank you for sharing that information. Do you know of any other OWENS with John on his journey? I have Sarah's father as Samuel and found a Samuel OWENS early in Mon. Co having settled there in 1769 on the Mon. River. He transferred his land to John EVANS in 1769 and it became Evansdale. This is from Earl Core's first volume in the Mon. Story series. I have a number of Baptist ministers in my Welsh families. I do have connections to the Welsh Quakers of Chester County and so I have followed Thomases there, too, in hopes of finding a connection as their records were so good, but have not found one. The Welsh Quakers in Chester descended from a small group of Welsh gentry who were among the first settlers of of PA circa 1680's. Best regards, Jane

Hi, Ramona, Enlarged the page by 50% and using a magnifier found the following on this list which is not in alpha order: THOMAS, John 6 in household OWENS, John 6 in household BIGGS, William 4 in household By the way, Ramona, I have a 4G grandmother who was Sarah OWENS (1735-1762) m. Owen DAVIS (1725-1810). I don't think that Sarah lived long enough to make the journey over the mountains. This Owen Davis later settled in SW Fayette Co., PA. Any chance there is a connection? And, I have a 5G grandmother who was Mary THOMAS (b. abt. 1730) m. Isaiah LEWIS. They may have lived and died in DE. Their daughter Margaret (1753-1839) m. Abel JONES (4G grandparents) who also migrated to SW Fayette Co., PA. Amazingly, I have a Jane BOGGS (b. somewhere around 1750) m. Enoch JONES b. abt. 1750 and older brother of the above mentioned Abel JONES. Are we searching for members of the same Welsh Baptist community?? Best regards, Jane

    3. Thank you very much. My family information is that my Thomas and Owen(s) families came over from Wales in 1762 on the same ship. The oldest family members I know of on the ship were Ezekiel Thomas, father of John who was 10 at the time, and John Owen, father of Sarah who was born on the voyage, her mother having died and buried at sea. John Thomas and Sarah Owen later married. John became a Baptist minister. They went from Harrison Co., VA/WV to Champaign Co., OH and then on to IL (Lee Co. and maybe others). My John Baggs was b. in Ireland, according to a census record of a son/dau. who said the father was b. in Ireland. He m. Rebecca Thomas, dau of John and Sarah (Owen) Thomas, in Champaign Co., OH. I don't remember my source, but John Baggs may have also been in Virginia, county unknown. It sure would be nice if we could connect lines!!! I've been searching forever for ancestors of all three of these families. The historian at Clarksburg, WV seemed to think maybe my line was the Quaker family who went to WV from Chester Co., PA. 3. On the Calvert my sil and I are going thru the list. The great grandmother name is Martha Delphine Calvert. b. Nov. 18, 1869. Carrie, Corey, Margaret, Lindsey, Kelly or Kal, are the kids. Margaret is the grandmother and she m. Roland Warman. They had 3 girls, Lillian, Janet and Dorothy. Janet is the mother to my Husband and 2 sil who lives with me. Janet had Leroy, Delbert, my husband and Margaret Wertz. Janet m. Bert Sheldon Wertz and he has 2 other girls. Janet remarried but had no other kids. My sil does not remember Martha Calvert husband name right off but we are searching. We found Swanger connected to this family, Hixon, Hudson, Solomon, and I can scan these pages if you like. Josual is the brother of Roland Warman and we do not know the other relations. I am in high hope you can help us. We have search and search this family and we found few info but trouble is this family sure is quiet. Gloria Wertz of Point Marion, PA Plumbers favoite shoes are "clogs".

That certainly suggests that William was their father, not John who could have been the grandfather. (However, it is still feasible that John was their father if he had predeceased William, leaving his daughters as the heirs of William.) I have Volumes 2, 4 and 6 but not 5 of ZINN's series. And, I see that this surname (DAUGHERTY/DOUGHERTY) is cited with some frequency in those volumes, too. I'll have to review all of those to see if I can learn more about this family. So far, I do not see any mentions of RIGHTMIREs. In a 1782 enumeration for Monongalia County, there is only a John DAUGHERTY there with four in his household. My DOUGHERTY, Susan b. abt. 1791, m. John INKS, son of Thomas INKS, also a tavern keeper just north of Preston Co., in Wharton Twp., Fayette Co. on the old Braddock Road. They were not married until about 1807. Susan would still have been a minor in 1803. Regards, Jane

    2. Alice
    3. Jane...There is more on the property that was Daugherty and became Elliotts at the U of Virginia on there online database. I have not been able to copy it. Mostly because I am not very proficient with computers. It is under Elliott mentions Jarvis Daugherty as being a son of William. I may have found Jarvis Daugherty later in Logan County Ohio. Can not be certain it is the same Jarvis Daugherty but I suspect it is. He married a Marmon. James and Elizabeth went on to Knox/Coshocton County Ohio although I know he is related to those in Loudoun County and they may have had at least one child in Loudoun County before moving to Ohio. I have not quite figured out if William is father or Grandfather or why Jane and Husband would end up with the property over William's son Jarvis. I have not found a will for William Daugherty which would be very helpful. It seems to me at some point I found a Susan Dougherty in either Coshocton or Knox County census. Have been looking for my info on her but have not found it. If I recall she was living with a family with another surname..Later, Alice

I am trying to find this Isaac. >Isaac Calvert m Frances Bullock or Bullitt > Hi, David, The only CALVERT in this second volume of Earl Core's series is Enoch whom Core mentions as having settled at Dunkard Bottom in 1808. This would be in present day Preston County. Morton writes that Enoch Calvert came from Winchester, settling in 1808 on the Buckner P. Whetsell farm south of Caddell. He adds, " there is a grandson in Valley and the family of another in the Whetsell Sesttlement. Morton lists the children of Enoch and his wife, Nancy JACKSON, as: Jesse who lived in PA, George R. who lived in PA, William m. Anne JACKSON, Lydia m. Conrad WHETSELL, Mary m. Jesse HALL, and Susan who remained single. I do not find any CALVERTs in the first volume in Core's series. Samuel Wiley's History of Monongalia mentions a Dr. Calvert as a physician in the Clay District at the time of his writing which was circa 1883. Apparently the Clay District abuts Greene Co., possibly by Perry Twp. Perhaps you need to be looking in Winchester, VA for Isaac. REgards, Jane
