RIGHTMIRE and DAUGHERTY in Monongalia and Harrison Counties Late 1700's and early 1800's. Especially James Rightmire and Elizabeth Daugherty who l married in 1802 in Monongalia Co. Especially interested in an area that is now in Preston Co West Virginia along the Cheat River near Kingwood known as Daugherty and later as Elliott. Also any information on William Rightmire who lived in Harrison County. Any Help appreciated, Alice
My Rose family traversed this area in the mid to late 1700's. Any connection to these Rose folks would be greatly appreciated: Robert Rose & Johanna Crawford (or Quick) - their sons were: Tychicus Rose and Ezekiel Rose. John Rose, b. 1761 - 1843 (my brick wall), m. Rebekah Bowen, b. 1763 - 1835 (John & Rebekah settled in Harrison Co., VA, which is now know as Marion Co., WV. They were there from about 178? - 1798, moved to Fayette Co., PA, then settled in what's now Wolfe Co., KY.) Thanks so much, Gail (Rose) Berish

Can someone confirm (or disprove), add to (or subtract from), or otherwise shed light on this Preston family listed below? Samuel Worley Jeffreys was my great grandfather and I have a book with entries written by his wife Sarah Hamrick that lists her children but not her siblings. Hello I am trying to track a John Johnston,Johnson,Johnstone who was born in Taylor Monongalia or Harrison County to Robert Johnston and Mahala Carder in 1820. John married Susan Day. They had five children; Sara Jane b 1841 who married C.L. Shuttleworth. James b 1850 married ?, Mahala Ann b 1853 married James Crozier, Abraham b 1854 married Ada White and George Samuel b 1856 married Annie McKirahan. I believe John died before 1877 and the rest of the family moved to Bellaire Ohio. I am trying to find out when and how John (b 1820) died? Don't know if he was in the Civil War. I am also trying to track James (born 1850). He may have relocated to Missouri. Sally Havens
Enough said before we have a good old WV mountain/hills neighborhood battle. Everyone has opinions, but it is time for genealogy in the group. We don't want to start another battle. Words has started many of wars in the past and they can hurt people. It is time for a roll call of surnames you are working on -- Look in the closet for some of these missing pieces of your genealogy. You don't know what you might find. Each day gets harder on some of the ones in the 1800's and 1900's that are not on record. If you want to talk about battles let talk about the French and Indian War. Who knows much about it, because it could help in finding missing people. If you don't know, ask questions. Sample -- How did it start? Where was the first battle? Sue
It is good to share ideas and opinions. It is very healthy and non-confrontational, in my opinion. It is all good. Peace.

Come on people. Enough is enough. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Did anyone read my message titled Pro and Con. Apparently not. Let's get on with our lives. I'll be darned if I'm going to unsubscribe. I'll get Delete. Sherry
I must say that there are stong feelings on the subject matter. Also, the U.S. can only do so much. I think terrorism comes before some African country somewhere that is far down on the scale of terrorism. I'm sure that none of you would care to have biological or chemical weapons launched at you. I have chosen to have a "wait and see" attitude about the U.S. claims of these weapons in Iraq..which is...."wait" and you will "see" that they do have them. Give them the time, it's only been 3 weeks. As for the "cost" of the war.....it could have been much higher, we didn't expect to roll across Iraq in such a short time, the plan was brilliant. Why do people think that we should only keep to ourselves all of the time? If we did that, we would probably find invaders at our boarders and shores in no time. We are a far superior country than any in the world why do you think that we are the first country that the others turn to when they are in trouble? Why do you suppose that we haven't been attacked on the U.S. mainland since the war against the British in 1812? (I know my history here, Hawaii was a territory when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor) Why do you suppose that we have more freedom than any other country on earth. If that is "exacting" then so be it. It's the truth. The thing is, most countries have homeless people and not all homeless people are fine upstanding citizens, just because we have homeless, hungry people (which is NOT the norm) should we let our guard down? After all there is Welfare, I see enough of it around here. Is it being suggested that when all of the United States' problems are in order here THEN we can go to war? That would be a shame, that would partly be letting our guard down. We can concentrate on more than one issue at a time, we are known for multi-tasking. And YES, we do what is best for ourselves (the U.S) first, why should we look out for other countries first? Yes, we did arm the Iraqi's against Iran, it was in our best interests at the time, so what. And EXACTLY, some of those other countries can't afford to take care of their own people, and who do they turn to???? The United States. We can't save the whole world, but when it comes to the case of OUR national interest, for whatever reason, my first commitment is with our country first and foremost and every other country can just stand in line. Government isn't infallible, it is humans that run this country. You can''t please alll of the people all of the time. And one more free country is great. Now, we'll see if they can stand on their own two feet in the future. We abandoned them in 1991 after making a promise too and if and when there is benefit in the end, then so be it. If the Middle East is left to it's own devise then it wouldn't be long till something as terrible as 9-11 happens again........maybe even worse if anyone can imagine that??? Don't you just love this country.....freedom of speech, freedom to worship as you please and where you please and how often you please or not to worship at all, women have the freedom to vote and go around town with their faces uncovered if they want to or not, freedom to not get stoned to death or tortured...the list goes on and on................this gives us the right to have our own opinions too and to disagree if we want....Isn't it great! Dear Listers -- I continue my quest to track down information on Joshua Clark born 1807 who married Rachel Sapp in Harrison Co (then VA) WV, with Peter B. Righter as guardian for both. Joshua was the son of Johnson Clark born between say 1750 - 1770 and Jemima (Unknown) born 1766 in ?. Family tradition holds that Johnson Clark was born in NJ, but that remains unconfirmed. His parents' names are unknown (BRICK WALL). We do know that Johnson and Jemima were married in PA about 1794 (county unknown). Johnson deserted his family in / around 1810-1811 and left Jemima & children penniless. Several children (including Joshua and another daughter Matilda) were bound out ----- there is indication that Joshua may have been bound to Walter Everett. It took Jemima until 1828 to track Johnson down in Franklin Co. IN. Per an 1828 deposition from Jemima found in Franklin Co., IN Chancery Court records, Johnson had "taken up with another woman and had several children by her" in an adulterous fashion. We lose all track of both Johnson and Jemima after about 1830-1831. Joshua and Rachel removed (eventually) to Clinton Co., OH and are buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery in Wilmington, Clinton Co. Joshua was my ggg grandpa and there are several descendants living in this area. I have copies of deeds indicating that Johnson and Jemima owned land in Harrison Co. VA near Fox Grape Creek. Any information on ANY of the family lines and / or descendants of the above would be greatly appreciated: SAPP, CLARK, Sincerely, Joy (Hussey) Settlemyre Clinton Co., Ohio
