BROOKS - Joshua b. 1861 or Martin b. 1889 DAVIS - William b. 1775 m. Martha MAYO, Zachariah b. 1822 m. Lucy Ann DESPER, or George b.1863 m. Martha CHANDLER Thank you, in advance, for your help. Janice Searching for ALLEY, BROOKS, CHANDLER, DAVIS, GIBSON, MINTER, and more.

Dear Brian...know that my daughter Pam has sent you a few requests about our Davis family....Daniel Davis and son Annanias...Annanias son Henry was born. 1830 Monongalia co...and Henry's son George had son Scott Davis that was suppose to have been principal at the Monongalia H.S......George's children born after 1902, so information about Scott would have to be in one of last volumes I suspect,(if they contain information that late, as I only have vol. 1 at our local library) but only family member notable enough in later period, to perhaps be mentioned....sorry I don't have birth date for Scott......but would seem this information might be in mid 1900's....His father George W. Davis b. 1875, d.1955, was married a few times....Scott's mother was Isa Jane Grimm, parents William Grimm and Hannah Hawkins, looks they were from Preston co, re Hannah's birth there.... barbara

Norma, In case you don't know about it already, there is a wonderful Shiflett/Shiflet (and all other variant spellings) site at <http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/4575/>. Don't know if you will find anything about James there, but you will find a lot of us who are researching our Shiflett/Shiflet roots. Maybe you will find someone who knows about your James. My branch of the Shiflet family migrated from VA to GA c. 1798 and then on to TX in 1856/57. Gaylene Kerr Banister Houston, TX [email protected] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~banister/index.html
<<Brian,i would like to know if you have anything on,Linch/Lynch & Lough familys.>> There are dozens upon dozens of mentions of both families. <<Brian, I would appreciate a lookup for any information about James Johnson/Johnston...>> Two possibilities. "James Johnson assee to John Downs is intitled to four hundred acres of land in Monongalia County in the right of residence on the head of the left hand fork of Hellins Run and the headwaters of Teverbachs Run to include his Improvement made in the year 1769. Tevebaugh Run (Marion County) was named for Daniel ("Indian Dan") Tevebaugh, the first settler at present Worthington." "James Johnson assee to Rudolph I. Cox is entitled to four hundred acres of Land in Monongalia County on the East side of the west fork nearly opposite to the mouth of Bengermans Creek adjoining Claim by Henry Snider to include his Settlement made in the year 1772. This tract, nearly opposite the mouth of Bingamon Creek, was one which, according to Augusta County Court records, was originally claimed by George Shinn, who complained he was "cheated out of it." Bingamon Creek was named for Samuel Bingaman who spent some time there trapping and digging ginseng in 1757." Brian Brian D. Core P.O. <<Hi Brian, I would like to know if there are any "Lindsey", "Wamsley", or "Ogden" in your book. Thank you for your research time. Sandy>> H. C. and Layman W. Ogden and J. H. Lindsay are mentioned in Vol. 4. Layman Ogden of Clarksburg was killed in an auto accident, reported 13 August 1920. H. C. Ogden was an assistant editor of a student-run publication, The Echo, on the WVU campus in 1887. J. H. Lindsay authored an article about the history of pottery in America in 1928. Vol. 2 quotes Dorothy Davis, from her History of Harrison County. It says that a house built by David Wamsley (1755-1849) was still standing (1970) on Big Elm Farm north of Shinnston. William D. Lindsay and Benjamin Ogden were also mentioned in this volume. Benjamin Ogden loaned money to Col. Wm. McCleery in 1807, and a long list of collateral was given. William Lindsey was sworn in as a justice of the peace on 08 November 1813. Brian Brian D. Core P.O. The line of George Rogers Clark LEWELLYN s/o William LLEWELLYN and Jennie BAKER and the line of Joshua MARSHALL have been two of my brick walls for many years. Would you mind checking to see if either of these are mentioned in the books? Thank you so much. <<Hi Brian, I haven't written because you have been so busy. I have been researching Daniel Davis b. 1761 in Sussex De d.1816 in Monongalia CO. who married Luranah Hudson in Sussex . They moved to Monongalia Co. Their son was married to Annanias Davis in Monon CO and Hannah Shafer on Feb. 20, 1823 in Monongalia. Their son Henry married catherine Malady in Monon Co. There son Henry Davis married Catherine Malady abt 1853. Luranah was d/o of Sophia Poyntner Hudson Cole and Anna ius. Her seond husband was Coverdale Cole. PAm>> I know there is a Poynter/Davis/Cole researcher lurking on the list, but I won't blow her cover if she doesn't want to join in on this one. None of these names are mentioned in The Monongalia Story, but they ALMOST fit peripherally into my own family tree. One of Coverdale Cole's grandchildren married Nimrod Barrickman, who was son of my g-g-g-g grandparents, John Barrickman, Jr. and Barbara Franks. Another of Coverdale's grandchildren married Nimrod Barrickman's sister, Eliza. That's as close as I come to being related to these people. Brian Brian D. Core P.O.
