CAN SOMEONE HELP THIS GENTLEMAN. I CHECKED ALL THE BOOKS ON MARION CO., THAT I HAVE AND COULD NOT FIND RIDWELL'S. A GOOD DEED THEY ARE DOING FOR GENEAOLGY ELAINE ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, February 23, 2001 11:35 PM Subject: WV Helplist I am a student at WVU and recently was at a cemetary in Fairmont helping locate and uncover submerged/broken headstones. The cemetary is an old predominantly Irish cemetary from the mid 1800's that apparently hasn't been taken care of in some 50 years. Someone in the anthropology department at WVU has recieved a grant to restore the cemetary and so they are enlisting the use of students to help w/ clearing brush and finding submerged headstones and thats why I was there. While there i found a headstone that was badly deteriorated (as most there are,) but I was able to make out the name...Mrs. Rebecca Ridwell. No dates or anything else, just the name. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to check the marriage records and death certificates to find out where she was originally from (if she was an immigrant,) her maiden name, her husbands name, dates of her life, and the names of any children she may have had. I am just very curious about this person that I found. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Jay-
Jeanne, Hi, I made it to the library yesterday. There is no marriage record for David in Harrison Co. Records. I think I may have founbd some additional Calwell marriages which I don't think was mentioned by others in the responses they posted to the list. I will check on them when I have more time. I did not have the index covering the C's names. I went ahead and ordered both of them. They should arrive in about ten days or so. Between now and then I will try to research the indexes of individual volumes but not all the Land Books have indexes with them. I did look at the cumulative records of land patents - I don't know if this is good news or bad news - but there was a John and James Caldwell who owned a lot of land in several different places. At least 41 tracts some of which were up to 59,000 + acres each most about 1000 acres. This John and James did not apparetly live in WV and probably were absentee land speculators a couple of possible matches lives in VA. I should be able to narrow them down pretty quickly once I get a bit more time to look at the dded books. Whether David is related to them or not - we will have to see. I can guess right now that David probably left about 1825. I noticed that George had $3500 worth of land in 1850 that's quite a bit- I suggest you get the land records from Cass CO, his earliest deed might say that he was from a particular place when he bought the land - it could be very revealing. I could not locate a record of David Casldwell in IN - he is not the one in Jefferson Co< IND in 1850 and 1840. Have you looked up all the David Caldwells' IN 1830-1850?? Where was George's marriage?? How about OH and KY? Have you identified any of his siblings?? I know what you mean about Death Records in IN - my David Swisher b. 1804 d. there in 1881 - same situation - no mention of his parents - but I found them!! I looked in the Cass Co. IN records Wills and Adm for a period to about 1850 - I did not find much. I am going to have to work 6 days this week so - I will try to do what I can the indexes will be a big help as long as Davide bought some land and sold it!! I will continue with this if you wish let me know - if you could send a check for twenty -five dollars I think I sent you my address in the last e-mail. Let me know, Paul Pettit -----Original Message----- From: Jeanne Silva <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, February 22, 2001 9:52 AM Subject: Re: [VA-Har-Mon] Land Reccords? >Hi Jean >My g-grandfather was George Caldwell (no middle name). Looking for information concerning the Pleasant View M.P. Church and/or associated cemetery at Hodgesville WV, located "down from Little Pecks Run" on Upshur - Barbour Co. line. It looks like four ancestors/relatives may be buried there: Christopher McVaney (d. 6/30/1853), Onias/Ananias Crites (d. 2/13/1853), Martha McVaney Crites (d. 10/27/1872, wife of Onias), Catherine McVaney Crites (d. 12/18/1856, wife of Jonas Crites), and perhaps Jonas Crites (d. 7/8/1873). Are cemetery records/transcriptions available? Is anyone familiar with the history of this church and neighboring area?
How about George? Thank you, Robert
I would appreciate anyone looking up the 1820 and 1830 Harrison Co census for David and Eunice Caldwell. Also if any of David or his decendents are on the list. Or any land records for David around 1820. My g-grandfather was born in 1808 in Harrison Co according to his tombstone, there should be some record of the family being there, also of his parents. Thanking you in advance Jeanne Silva
Received this for a look up and struck out. No Ridwell was listed in any of the books I had IS there any one out there that would have any information on this Rebecca Ridwell. Jimmie, The library in Clarksburg is called the Waldomore and is located right next door to the Clarksburg Harrison Public Library. Until they built the new library the Waldomore was the libarary. It is a very old mansion with lots of genealogy records besides the long forms of the Guy Tetrick Files. Does anyone know if current tax maps can be obtained from the Harrison County Assessor's Office? I'm interested in the map that would cover that area of Brushy Fork, just east of Elk Creek to the county line with Barbour County. If available, I would appreciate any help on how to go about getting the map. Jim ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Help stamp out internet junk genealogy.
