When I get home I'll see what I can find about the Rev. War Roys and be glad to send it to you. The Joseph you refer to isn't "my Joe"--mine was in Pendleton Co. WV in 1784. Do you have a father or grandfather of that Joseph ? I'd still be interested in checking it out. My line was pretty well settled in the now WV area by the early 1700's . I'll be back in touch when I get home. Thank you for replying. It's good to get feedback from these lists! Hi, Pam, There's a book called "Pioneers of Old Frederick County, Virginia" by Cecil O'Dell which references a lot of Deed and Will books from counties which were once a part of "Old" Frederick. On p. 363, there's "Thomas Roy of Hampshire County and his wife Hannah (William [Hurst] Sr's daughter) sold 165 acres of the 400-acre tract to Francis Lehew for 50 pounds on 31 March 1785." Looks like this Thomas might have been related to your Josephs. Maybe you could find something more on him. Wm Hurst Sr. is described as b.c. 1710 and he purchased land on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Didn't find any LeRoys in this book. Regards, Jane

    3. -- Hi Everyone, I just joined this list and am looking forward to contacting other members who are interested in these folks - from Va. and WV : The * LE ROY /ROY/ROY *E family line. I’ll share whatever I have and certainly hope to get more! *WEST VIRGINIA* Gordon K. Roy (living) Lorenzo Dow Roy (1889-1964) Randolph Co. (my grandfather) Jedson Roy (1850- 1925) Randolph Co. (g - grandfather) Washington Roy (1822-1904) Pendleton & Tucker Cos. (gg-grandfather) I have good info on these relatives and name them here mainly to give a family “foundation”. * VIRGINIA* Here’s where it gets sticky: *Joseph Roy (2) (1782-1862)* lived in Augusta/Rockingham / Hampshire Cos.(now Randolph /Pendleton /Tucker WV) (ggg-grandfather). Married to Sarah Summerfield (1788-1870). *Joseph Roy (1) ( b. ?1720 d. 1798) *lived in now Pendleton /Randolph/ Tucker WV (gggg-grandfather) This is where Joseph (1)’s trail goes cold. His wife was* Joely Summerfield (1750-1810)* and I have no info on his parents (or hers) or how or when he got into WV. There is documentation on both Joseph (1) & (2) ‘s military service in Lord Dunsmore’s War, French & Indian War, and Revolutionary War and it appears Joseph (1) was in what is now WV in mid-1700’s. Family lore says we are Scots-Irish and not the French Canadians that I keep bumping into online. I have been perusing the descendants of a Huguenot, *Hugh Leroy (1614-1657) *, who immigrated from England to King & Queen Co. Va. in 1635. His line, briefly: *Hugh Roy (1634-1694)* | *John Richard Roy (b. 1657 in Roy’s Neck)* * | Hannah, Richard Jr., James, John Guy* This family resided in (and may be the namesakes of)* Port Royal, Caroline Co., Va. *as well as *King & Queen Co. Va. *It's well-documented that this line later moved into Kentucky, but I have been unable to find a West Va. pioneer among them. I'm running out of places to look! -Does anyone have any reliable information that can either link or disprove a link between the early WV pioneer Roys and this Northern Neck family of Roye/LeRoy/ Roy? -Does anyone have any reliable information on Joseph Roy (1) that can point me in the direction of his or Joely Summerfield’s origins? -Does anyone have need of information that I may have on this family line? I’ll be happy to share. (Sources for the above on request). Thanks in advance, Pamela Roy Cox Virginia * *
