    3.  Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that if any of you are interested, the following Rootsweb mailing lists are now officially up for adoption. As I really don't have the time that needs to be put into them, I am hoping a more devoted list mom or dad, will step forward. :) This is a "first come, first served" adoption, and if you request to adopt, and don't hear back from me immediately, please be patient.                                                                      Take care,                                                                         Diana                                                                       List mom AL-FREEDMEN AL-ORPHANS ALDALLAS AMERICAN-INDIAN-MISSIONS ANCHORS ANDERSONVILLE ANKER BOONE-DANIEL-KY CASHATT CONNACHER DAMATO DanvilleCrossing DanvilleQueries DAVIS-VA DOLLAR ETN-OZ FL-AfricaAmer FL-FREEDMEN FL-PAHOKEE FLCOLLIE FLHARDEE FLHERNAN FLMARTIN FLOSCEOL FLPALMBE FLUNION FRYER GA-ELBERT-CO GAWALTON HONEYMAN IA-FREEDMEN IABUTLER IACLARKE IACLAY IAFRANKL IAMONROE IATAYLOR IN-FREEDMEN IN-LAWRENCE-MTZionCemetery INBLACKF Justice-Marshall KS-FREEDMEN KSJEWELL KY-ADOPTIONS KY-AUBHISTSOC KY-FEUDS KY-FOLKLORE-GHOST-STORIES KY-FREEDMEN KY-INTERTRIBAL KY-LITTLE-SANDY KY-REGULATORS KY-SLAVES KY-STURGEON KYADAIR KYCARTER KYEDMONS KYLARUE KYLINCOL KYMORGAN-HISTORY LA-FREEDMEN LAACADIA LAASSUMP LAWEBSTE LONGLEY MARTINDALE MO-FREEDMEN MOWORTH MS-FREEDMEN MSAFRICANAMER MSCLAY MSKEMPER MSMONTGO MSRANKIN MSWINSTON NC-FREEDMEN NCCOLUMB NCSCOTS NJ-AFAM NJ-FREEDMEN NJ-ORPHANS NYFULTON OBERLIN OBERMAN OBRE OH-FREEDMEN OH-SLAVES OKCCGS ORDER-OF-ELKS ORDER-OF-THE-EASTERN-STAR PA-BUCKS-CEMETERIES PA-DEL-CEMETERIES PA-DEL-CHESTER PA-FOLKLORE PA-FREEDMEN PA-MEMORIES PA-MONTGOMERY-CEMETERIES PA-OLD-RAYSTOWN PA-PHILA-CEMETERIES PA-RIDLEY PA-ROLLCALL PA-SUSQUEHANNA PA-SW-OBITS PADATA PAMCKEESPORT ROBENHORST ROBIE ROBSON SC-DUTCHFORK SC-FREEDMEN SC-VETERANS SOOTER SOUTHERN-CHAT SOUTHERN-PLANTATIONS Southern-Trails SPARKES STAGGS STURGILL-EAST-KY TN-BLOUNT-OBITUARIES TN-FREEDMEN TUTT TX-BAPTIST TX-CATHOLIC TX-COTTON TX-EARLY-LEADERS TX-FREEDMEN TX-HISTORY TX-LUTHERAN TX-MEMORIES TX-MERCERCOL TX-METHODIST TX-OILGEN TX-REVOLUTION TX-SHARECROP TX-VETERANS TX-WOOD-CEM TX-WOODMEN TXBOSQUE TXCALDWE TXCALLAH TXCHAMBE TXCOCHRA TXCRANE TXCULBER TXDUVAL TXHARTLE TXHEMPHI TXHUNT-ARCHI VES TXHUNT -OBITS TXKENDAL TXKENEDY TXKENT TXKIMBLE TXMOORE VA-AfricanAmer VA-CHURCH-HILL VA-FREEDMEN VA-ROLLCALL VAAMELIA VACHARLE VACNORFO VADINWID VAGREENE VAISLEOF VALDRES VANANSEM VANOTTOW VANVOORHEES VAPOWHAT VAPRINCEG; WV-FREEDMEN WV-MetroValley WVPRESTO WVSUMMER

    3. Eric, in your reference to Williamsburg's being in the county of Isle of Wight (......Was son of Josiah Wills (1746-1825) and Mary Driver who married in 1772 at Williamsburg, Isle of Wight County, VA......), I believe Williamsburg to have been in James City County from sometime in the 1600s. If I am wrong, I would love to know it, since my ancestors and those of my husband, were in Jamestown & Williamsburg from the early days. Marcia Curtis ----- Original Message ----- From: Eric Huffstutler To: VA-CHURCH-HILL@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, January 26, 2011 8:44 PM Subject: [VA-CHURCH-HILL] Charles Wills (c.1775-1820) and family - seekinginfo... Looking for ANYONE that can connect to ANYBODY below and also know some information about the house Capt. Charles Wills built in 1812. Holy Grail would be photographs or portraits of property (houses) and Wills or family members. Capt. Charles Wills (1775-1820) born around the Williamsburg area and family lived in Mulberry which is now Fort Eustis, VA. Was son of Josiah Wills (1746-1825) and Mary Driver who married in 1772 at Williamsburg, Isle of Wight County, VA. Josiah remarried 1797 to a Patsey Uzzell Had at least one brother named Thomas Wills (1773-1825) who died in Nanesmond County and married to a Ann Gray. Charles Wills married to (unknown) and had at least 5 children. One of their children said the mother (wife) was born in Scotland and going by their home church of St. John's here in Church Hill, she must have died between 1815-1820. They are most likely buried at St. John's which was the only public cemetery in the area at the time but the sexton records for that time frame and many headstones are gone now. Their children were: Mary D. Wills (c.1792-c.1835) + 1820 Richmond, VA to Phillip Budlong (1789-1825) and then 1829 Richmond, VA to Austin T. Lipscomb Elizabeth B. Wills (1804-after 1845) + 1833 Richmond, VA to Samuel P. Christian, Jr. Charles Wills (1806-1839) - was Deputy Clerk for Henrico County many years Sarah Wills (1808-1861) + 1828 Richmond, VA to John Frazier Alvey (1808-1837) Josiah M. Wills (1809-1855) + 1835 Norfolk, VA to Margaret Moran Walsh (1814-1856) Capt. Wills was not a ship's captain as some had mentioned but of a Militia - probably Camp Holly. He moved to Richmond by 1803 and started a grocery business, had several buildings including one where the current Farmer's Market is today in Richmond. Built a mansion in Church Hill (then considered on the fringe of Shed Town) in 1812 and is the oldest in Church Hill proper. One of his grocery buildings built in 1815 also still stands. Thanks! THEY LIVED AT 2208 GRACE STREET ON CHURCH HILL FROM AROUND 1920 UNTIL 1953 WHEN MY GRANDFATHER KING DIED. THERE WERE 5 CHILDREN IN THAT FAMILY: MY MOTHER, SELMA; HER SISTER, HAZEL; AND THREE BROTHERS: WADE, KENNETH AND CHARLES. MY MOTHER, AUNT HAZEL AND UNCLE KENNETH ARE STILL ALIVE AND THEY ARE IN THEIR 80's. I WAS 6 YEARS OLD WHEN MY GRANDFATHR DIED AND LEFT THAT HOUSE SO MY MEMORIES ARE SLIM. BUT I VIVIDLY RECALL A MONESTARY OR NUNNERY THAT WAS ACROSS THE STREET FROM THEIR HOUSE. 1. [VA-CHURCH-HILL] Callahan / Costello / Johnson Cemetery plot
    2. I recently found that there are three unmarked Costello graves in my great-great-grandfather, Patrick Callahan's cemetery plot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia . Patrick was born in Stradbally, Waterford, Ireland about 1831 and died in Richmond in 1922. His wife Catharine (unknown) was born in Kanturk, County Cork, Ireland about 1841. No one in our family has heard of any Costello relatives and the cemetery records have no dates; perhaps they lived in Churchill and someone will recognize them. The only reference to the Costellos is the on the cemetery's sketch of the burials within the plot that has the coffins numbered (presumably in chronological order). The first interment was Mary Costello, then John Costello. The third burial is that of the Callahan infant twins, also undated. The fourth burial is that of Patrick's infant grandson, Joseph L. Johnson in 1898. Kate Costello is the seventh burial which must have been after Catharine Callahan's death in February of 1908. These may be Patrick's in-laws or his mother's family. I'm hoping someone will identify their long-lost ancestors and explain the Callahan connection. Descendants might like to honor their ancestors and place stone markers on their unmarked graves.

    1. [VA-CHURCH-HILL] Anthony Turner
    2. Built between 1803-1810, the Anthony Turner house at 2520 East Franklin Street is thought to be one of the oldest houses that remains standing on Church Hill. He was originally from Hanover County, son of Nathaniel Turner and his wife, Mary Waddy. He was a master brickmason and Richmond magistrate. Dying in 1819, he was survived by widow, Lucy, and three children. The house remained in the family until 1830. His brother and my third great grandfather, Walter Turner, remained in Hanover on the land of their parents, having inherited it or bought it from the other heirs. My grandfather, Walter Turner Via, was named for his great grandfather. After the Civil War my direct Via line came to Texas. For those of you who are interested in Church Hill, there is an illustrated book, CHURCH HILL: The St. John's Church Historic District by Marguerite Crumley and John G. Zehmer, 1991, that may contiue to be in print. The photographs are excellent and cover most of the houses that remain standing on Church Hill. I do not know if the Anthony Turner children lived to be adults or whom they may have married. I believe that Lucy returned to New Kent County and lived to be quite old. I am very interested in this family and have additional information on siblings, dates of birth and more data including burial place of Nathaniel and Mary Waddy Turner and some of their children. I do not know where Anthony Turner is buried. I haven't checked for information at St. John's, if there is such data. Thank you, Janelle Via McKown
