    1. [VA Cemeteries] From the List Owner
    2. David E. Cann
    3. Hello folks, and welcome back to RootsWeb's newly upgraded list system. If you are receiving this post it is because you are still a subscriber to this list, even though things have been pretty quiet due to a number of issues lately. The lists are back now, and I believe you will like the improvements that have been made. The most obvious improvement is a new RootsWeb login system, which you will find at the following link: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/setupmail Only one account per person is needed, and once you have created it you will be able to organize and manage all of your list subscriptions in one handy location. Like anything new there will be something of a learning curve in the beginning, but I really think you will like it for the new security and personalization features for your list subscriptions. And last but not least, please note my email address as List Owner immediately below this message and following my name. Also note the "List information" link below that, which will take you to the information page for this list, where you will find information to help you subscribe, unsubscribe, and some other things based on the current status of your new log in account. I welcome you back to the list, and look forward to working with you in the future tracking down our elusive ancestors. David E. 3. Please folks, let's not have any more "Test" messages. As you might guess with RootsWeb coming back together now, there are still a substantial list of things still not working correctly if at all. They will be back in due time, including some new sign-in accounts for your security along with some new features that ought to be worth waiting for. All things in due time, but please do me a favor and let's leave the test messages off the list. If you need help, please write to me at the address below, but for the indefinite future I will help you if I can but as a volunteer Listowner I am learning a brand new system right along with you. I am looking for approximately 10 people buried on old land belonging to the family. It's general location is near Gordon Rd and Old Plank Rd near Rt. 3 in Spotsylvania county VA. I need someone's help to look for them. I have done a lot of research and have connected the property in which the graves are on to the last person in the family who acquired that specific piece of property. Unfortunately, this is where I am stuck. The property was just over 100 acres of land and 1/4 of an acre was used for a cemetery. After the original owner passed the land was split between the children. After they passed the last was divided again between those children. The land has since then has been developed. I fear they may have been moved with knowledge or perhaps are just lost in a patch of woods in between housing units. If anyone could help me with the next step to finding my lost family members I would be GREATLY appreciative! Thanks SO much! -Jessica Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: BrettGunner207 Surnames: Brett/Britt Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.cemetery.us.virginia/774.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Barbara, You asked a question about how to obtain information on cemeteries back in 2009. If you have not learned about this source, visit findagrave.com. It is free and has many many many records pertaining to the deaths of people world wide. There is a form you fill out after entering find a grave. Several ways to find or discover loved ones resting places. First, however, for one way you have to know the exact name of the cemetery you are seeking, but once that is known, it is a piece of cake to discover loved one. The way to find cemeteries is to type what you believe the name is of any cemetery into your Internet Browser, where the cemetery is located, and then let your computer do the rest. If your first attempt at doing this is not successful, then rearrange you data within your Internet Browser. There are several ways which you can filter any cemetery you seek. For example you are looking for all the Brett names within any state listed in findagrave, you can do so, as well as by county, or city, or the whole world for that matter. An incredible site that renders invaluable assistance to anyone within genealogy. I'm going to send you a personal message, directing you to this your original message dated 20 December 2009 at 5:31 AM. Regards, Sgt Raymond L. 1. [VA Cemeteries] FROM THE ADMIN: New List Admin
    2. David E. Cann via
    3. This is just a note to introduce myself as the new List Admin of this list as of a short while ago. I have been a volunteer List and Board Admin for RootsWeb for about fifteen years or so now, so even though new to this list I am hardly new to administering them. I'm a retiree now, so am lurking in the background keeping an eye on things much of an average day these days, but if you ask my wife I'm "in front of that computer all day." I am also a very active genealogist as well, just like most of you are, and I will jump into the conversation whenever I have something to offer just as most of the rest of you do. As for list workings and such, I try to keep things going according to all of RootsWeb's commonly accepted guidelines and practices just as any other list you may be on, so you will not see many changes in that respect. I look forward to meeting and working with you all in the coming weeks and months, and also to sharing our mutual enjoyment (or is it an obsession?) for genealogy. If you need any help with a list operation problem, please contact me at any time by writing to the Admin's address in my signature lines below, or simply post it to the list if it pertains to appropriate genealogy or history of general interest to other subscribers. 3. Dear Judy, JOHNSON Line--from my grandmother's line Delores Johnson Brewer. I have Johnson in my line in DeKalb County Alabama, My G,G,G, was 1SG David Johnson, he went to war with 48th Alabama from Marshall County, Alabama. I don't know if any of them went West, but I will do some looking in my records and see if I can find any information. My main concern is connect to Cedar Mountain/Cedar Run, VA 9 Aug 1862, that was the 1st battle my Loveless, Brewer, Johnson line went to war. IF you are looking for someone who died in the Civil war from the South They are buried in mass graves it may be hard to find. The Johnson's line is connected to a Carter line (early 1800s) they are buried by the Tennessee river in Marshall county, Alabama, if that helps. I have pictures of the grave yards. Dear Edith, Yes, I have looked on Find-a-Grave. It is one of my usual "go-to" sites. However, I didn't see anything there that resembled who/what I am seeking. Thank you for our post, however. The persons I seek connect to me through a YDNA match. I live in TX, and am not familiar with VA records, at all. I have worked on my family lines for over 50 years: you know, when one is a Johnson, you have to keep your nose to the grindstone. Thank you for your suggestion. It is appreciated. 3. Good luck. My only other suggestion would be to contact a historical society or public library for the area and you probably have already done that. I'm not too familiar with Pittsylvania county. Edith > On Feb 2, 2014, at 5:38 PM, Judy Erickson <[email protected]> wrote: > > Dear Edith, > > Yes, I have looked on Find-a-Grave.
