    3. Hi John, The purpose of this list is to offer the members the opportunity to donate obituaries whether from their family line or ones they think might be useful as well as providing a platform for requesting obit information on a particular individual. At one time we had numerous obituaries being sent in on a nearly daily basis. I would love to see that happening again. I would like to think one could go to the archives and find a wealth of material to draw from. Of course, if anyone has a different idea as to how this list could be useful, I would be happy to hear it. 3. We just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes, Jim and Di

    2. Campbell, Karen (Perkins Coie)
    3. Jim/Pops, what a lovely, fun idea! Here's my obit and a bit of background information - of Luella de Forest Cargill (who married Horace G. Fabyan - these were my great great grandparents). They were born in New Hampshire and went to Saunders County, Nebraska to homestead in 1869/1870: Death of Mrs. Fabyan from the Fremont Tribune, dated June 23, 1874 (transcribed by Karen Campbell) Mrs. Fabyan of Saunders county died on Thursday the 11th inst., at 4 o'clock p.m. The particulars of her death are as follows: Awaking early in the morning with a sour stomach, she went in a cupboard drawer to get some soda. She took a tea spoonful of the powder which she supposed to be soda, but which was in reality powdered corrosive sublimate. Dr. Crabbs was immediately sent for and arrived about three hours after she had taken the poison. All efforts to save her were useless, she had taken such a large quantity (three grains being sufficient to kill an adult), that she suffered no pain whatever, the poison having entirely paralyzed her nerves. She leaves a sorrowing husband and five small children. I haven't been able to find Luella's grave. I don't' find it listed in any online cemetery records in Saunders County nor in Dodge County, Nebraska. Dodge County and its town of Fremont, is just north across the river from their homestead in Pohocco, Saunders County. Family lore says that Horace murdered Luella (not an accidental poisoning), as he didn't think he was the father of their last child, Marion - who is my great grandmother. Instead, he thought that a local Indian, Yellow Smoke, was Marion's father. Horace traveled back to New Hampshire yearly to help his father manage a large hotel, leaving Luella and the children on the homestead. Right after Luella died in 1874, Horace took his kids back east and farmed them out to relatives in NY and Massachusetts and put Marion in an orphanage in NY. Marion was subsequently. Horace then disappeared from our family for the next 140 years or so until I tracked him to Fresno and San Francisco, CA, then up to Butteville, Marion County, OR, and then to Toledo, Lewis County, WA--where I found him about 5 years ago, buried in the Toledo Cemetery in 1880. The funny part of this whole story is that Toledo is about 2 hour's drive south of where I live! If any of you are in or near Saunders and Dodge Counties, Nebraska, I'd love some help in finding Luella's grave! Thank you! 2. Hi, I am attaching an obituary for Mrs. Marian Atwood (Stewart) Johnson who died in June 1904 in Kansas. Hope it will help someone. [Note: her father was John E. Stewart and mother was, Mary Ann Deacon.] [See attached]. This was found in the Chronicling America online database. I also have access to a number of other online database if I can be of assistance. Request: I am trying to locate an obituary for my ancestor: Mrs. Lydie/Lydia (Maire) Fournier VARING/VARIAN who died in 1864 in Scales Mound, Jo Daviess County, Illinois. If anyone has access to Illinois newspapers of that time period, I'd appreciate if you'd check for her. Thank you! 2. Jim Jackson
    3. Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Jim (Pops) Jackson and have been given the privilege of acting as List Admin for the US-OBITS List. I have been active with Rootsweb for nearly 20 years and have received great pleasure in doing so. I hope this message will help spur renewed activity with submitted obituaries (old and new), requests for help in finding a particular obit, etc. Obviously this means that Rootsweb is back in active status after a period of difficulties that have been dealt with and needed upgrades made. If you have not already done so, you may register at https://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/postorius/lists/ and be able to see all the lists to which you are subscribed as well as control how your messages are delivered, etc. I hope to hear from you soon with your comments, information and questions.
