Forwarded Message: Subj:Denton-Wise Boundary Date:4/24/2004 2:44:22 PM Central Daylight Time From:deanandnell@lakewebs.net To:ladarlak@AOL.com Sent from the Internet (Details) LaDarla We have been trying for some time to get Sams-Burnett-Mennerly Cemetery, in Denton County, designated as a Historical Cemetery. We are now at the point of writing a history of this cemetery. This cemetery is on the Denton-Wise County line. At some point in time I heard the boundary was changed and we were wondering if at one time this was in Wise County. Seems like the Death Certificates of most of the people buried there were issued by Wise County. We were told Denton County has no records for this cemetery back past 1911. We was told the Denton Courthouse burned in 1878. This is a 1.05 acre cemetery which is being destroyed by the livestock belonging to the man who owns the land surrounding the cemetery. At one time it set on a county road but at some point in time the county commissioners closed this road. Would it be suitable for you to post this on the Wise County list so we can hear from people who have relatives buried there? In order to write a history, we have to find some facts. We can't even find a record of a cemetery committee ever existing. We asked the Denton Historical Commission for information about this cemetery, but evidently they don't have any. We can use all the help we can get. Thanks, Dean and Nell........

I'm trying to find where John W. (Zacharia?) and Elizabeth Townley are buried. Jonn died Nov 11, 1899 in Denton or Wise Co. I don't know when Elizabeth died it was after Sept.1851, that is when my gggrandfather Henry Mack was born . They came from Miss. after 1849 when Elijah was born. Jeffie Lou Butler
