All: My wife is the grand-niece of James Ambrose Penn (wife was Prudence Catherine Vancleave). She has been trying to obtain identification of her great-grandparents and as a result has been trying to obtain death certificates on all of the great-grandparents children. James Ambrose Penn died November 11, 1911. The State of Texas does not have a death certificate on him (we have tried). Does Wise County have a death certificate or other record on James Ambrose Penn that would identify his parents? We think the parents were a James Penn (Warren Co., Tennessee, born Virginia) and a Permelia Francis Garretson (also born in Virginia). We have found Permelia F. Penn's grave at Bee Creek, Ellis Co., Texas. We have not located a death record on the father (Permelia indicates she is a widow in the 1880 census for Ellis Co.). We "think" that James Ambrose Penn's father was James Abram Penn, his grandfather James Francis Penn, and his great-grandfather was Col. Abraham Penn (Rev.
