Neatstuffgifts, Amazing how much you can learn from experience. A month before Hurricane Katrina I was home due to an injury. With all my time home I scanned all my old photos my mother gave me of her and my dads family onto a cd. Some where from the 1890s. I also put on cd my family tree database. Well, I had six feet of water in my house for 2 weeks. The only things I managed to save was my cds. Washed them in a little warm soapy water and they are fine. The original photos were lost.Sally > From: [email protected]> Date: Thu, 17 May 2007 09:43:09 -0400> To: [email protected]> Subject: Re: [TXWISE] FYI--from another list> > I have 4 portable file boxes with handles that I keep all of my files in and > a notebook with plastic sheets to keep birth, death and marriage > certificates in. This is good information. I am glad that people are making these kinds of efforts to keep their important genealogical information in tact. A lot of things that we have are irreplaceable and we should take extreme measures to ensure that if they are lost we have copies of them. I keep all my personal family documents (birth certificates, social security cards, etc) in a lock box at the house that I got from Walmart. It is durable and for around $20.00 it holds a lot of documents. It is fire proof to a very high temperature and can handle drops from high places. I encourage all of you to look into these boxes. The ones at Walmart have ratings on them that tell you how hot a temperature they can withstand and for how long they can remain there. They also tell you how indestructible they are. They are cheaper than you would think. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Sally Viada Sent: Thursday, May 17, 2007 9:20 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [TXWISE] FYI--from another list Neatstuffgifts, Amazing how much you can learn from experience.
