Private John Grider, son of John F. Grider d. 1780 Fannin, Texas, married to Rebecca Saunders in Adair County, KY before moving to Texas. These Griders are ancestors of mine and I do know that two of John's brothers served in the Texas Cavalry during the Civil War, named Joseph and Thomas. I believe they lived and died after the war in Wise County. I have a Mexican American War Muster Record showing John Grider as age 22 in 1846 when he died in a hospital in October of 1946 in Santa Fe, NM while attached to Capt Robinson's Company H of the Missouri Mounted Cavalry from Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. I have Private Grider being born in Adair, Kentucky in 1815 which would make him about 32 in 1946. Do you have any information about Private John Grider, son of John F. Grider? David Reese Hazard, Kentucky

as half the american army was staged at corpus christi, texas prior to the start of the war, he might have been stationed there. mitch givens, a reporter for the caller-times is sort of an historian on the area, and has an extensive knowledge of the army's being stationed there. i just corresponded with him on this very subject, regarding the generals in the civil war that were junior officers there at the time. he is most helpful when asked for information. email: givensm@caller.com Bill Shoemaker, Site Superintendent Banks Brothers Construction wdspeedbump@msn.com cell:281-638-4983 fax: 281-391-6849 > From: dreese@kih.net > To: txwise@rootsweb.com > Date: Fri, 20 Mar 2009 18:26:49 -0400 > Subject: [TXWISE] Pvt John Grider Mexican American War Patriot > > Private John Grider, son of John F.
