My granddad, Harvey Robison was born in Decatur and I remember him talking about Guinn "Big Boy" Williams and his family. I think his dad was elected to the House of Representatives or something like that. I just watched the "The Alamo" (for the 500th time last week) and "Big Boy" played in that. Guinn "Big Boy" Williams was my mother's first cousin. Her mother (my grandmother) and his father were siblings. On a trip to California (from Texas) when I was a child, we stopped by to visit with him and he gave us autographed pictures. I'm sure my brother still has his. The Williams family came to Texas about 1876 and ended up in Wise County by at least 1880. They came there from Calhoun County, Mississippi, where they had moved from Jackson County, Alabama, after the Civil War. I have heard that many people from Jackson County went to Texas after the war, helped by the building of a railroad. I need to find out more about that railroad - did it go through Calhoun County, Mississippi? Why did the Williams stop there for several years? Why did they continue on to Texas? Of course, many families in the south moved to Texas after the war .. . . Much more on the Williams family if anyone is interested!
