In response to.... Subject: Re: [TXWISE] 1880 news article Ok, have to ask: What is a "swingle-tree" ? It is not a "swingle-tree", correct terminology is a "single tree". A single tree is the device behind the horse used to draw a wagon or plow. It was usually made from oak wood (sometimes steel) approximately 24" long with metal ends shaped like eyelets.
