There was a Morris family at Red Hill (Hanna). I cannot remember his name, but he died fairly young of a heart attack in the late 60's or 70's. His wife was Agnes. My Holmes family came from Wise County to Pottawamie County then on to McIntosh Co. G Grandpa William was in the land run, but he told that it was too rough for him, and he dropped out. Came down to the Asher area and opened a saloon during the oil boom. I would think that would have been just as rough of life! Of course, he farmed also. In Wise County he helped haul some of the granite for the Wise County courthouse. I love that story. Yes, thanks to the Longs McIntosh County has a nice site. Sherrie, I couldn't find anything right off on Phillip. My Morris great great grandfather originally moved from North Carolina to tennessee in 1804 to Dickson/Montgomery cy Tn, and then moved to Fayette/Haywood county (Just east of Memphis). My grandfather was in Cooke Cy, tx in the 1880 census. He was 23 at the time and I doubt that he went to Tx alone. He probably came with an uncle who was in titus county in 1880. My great grandfather was still in Tn then, but went to Tx shortly thereafter. I don't know when, but some Morris children were born in wise cy shortly thereafter. My grandfather, Felix Morris brought the family to Okla in 1896 or late 1895. A couple of the others moved to washita Cy, Ok about the same time. Both my father and mother, who was a Hamilton, were raised around the Hanna, vivian, stidham area (My father and grandfather are both buried in the cemetery in Eufaula). When my grandfather quit farming, he moved in to Checotah (along with Carrie Underwood) and died there in 1924. He died about 7 years before I was born. I was looking at the McIntosh county web site and it appears to me that they lost some of the info they used to have on it. Shelley Lynch does a lot of work on that site. One of my great Uncles lived and died in Wise county, but I think most of the other Morris's moved out. My dad's brothers/sisters all moved out to Oregon/Wash en mass in 1919, except for mom and dad and they moved out in 1926 and came back to Okla in 1936 and settled on a farm about 8 or 9 miles west of McAlester. Another uncle came back to Okla about 1923 and became a bus driver of Greyhound for a bunchy of years. I'm sure you do not want a Morris family history lesson. The Morris you mentioned is not one of ours, or at least I don't think so. Unfortunately, I live in wisconsin and not able to go down there to do any physical searches. Where do you live?? Thanks, Earl > From: fluds@hotmail.com > To: txwise@rootsweb.com > Date: Thu, 12 Feb 2009 21:54:46 +0000 > Subject: Re: [TXWISE] (Picture removed by List) > > > There was a Morris family at Red Hill (Hanna). Sherrie, do you by any chance know Cathy curtis. She lives in Eufaula. Her great grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Pratt, married my great aunt (a Hamilton) who is also her great grandmother. They moved over from arkansas about 1895 and is probably the reason my grandfather and grandmother (a Pearson) moved also about 1908. My mother was born in Ark near Clarksville where a number them still live. It is Philip Nelson--Phil Nelson. I want to say he was born in KY. He lived in TN at one time. He lived in McIntosh County, OK, and then was in an "old soldier's home" around Sulphur, OK in Murray County when he died. As for dates, he was in the Civil War. > > If you need more specifics, I can get my information and write another time.> > Thanks for your help.> > > > Sherrie Flud > From: earlhmomorris@hotmail.com> To: txwise@rootsweb.com> Date: Thu, 12 Feb 2009 15:15:29 -0600> Subject: Re: [TXWISE] (Picture removed by List)> > > Sherrie, where in Okla are you looking ?
