Hello, I was looking in the older death files and found one of my ancestors listed there. Can you please tell me how, or where to get a copy of this death certificate? Here is the information listed : Wise County Death Index, Abstracted by: Richard L. Gibbs COX, W.S. Gibtown m w age 77 DOD 7/25/1903 Cert # 13 I was searching for another ancestor, Levi COX who was listed in the 1920 census in Weatherford, Parker County. He was in his 80s and Lizzie, his wife was i75 Then Lizzie died Mar 26, 1925, and was listed as a widow for 2 years, but there is no record of him, at all. Nothing. So I was told to check in Wise County, see if she had him taken there for buriel. Here is the info on him, please check. Levi Cox b. 2/12/1838 IN, (Prob died 1923) m. 1st to Louisa Caldwell (she died and is buried in Gibtown 4/10/1908 2nd time to Elizabeth (Lizzie) McDonough in 1911 Parker County. Neither Samuel Woody Sr. nor Samuel Woody Jr. were in Texas before 1850. Sam Sr. and Hannah and their younger children left Roan County, TN, with 12 other families that includes the Mann's and the Williamson's in the late summer of 1848 via the Tennessee River for Texas. Sam Jr. stayed behind to settle some family debt. The group moved by raft(s) down the Tennessee to the Ohio. Then something happened around Massac, Illinois, that caused the Woody's and the Williamson's to drop out to "replentish their purse" at Massac. Samuel and Hannah settled in Massac County where Sam worked as a blacksmith for the next two years. Daughters Susannah and Elizabeth were married there and Susannah gave birth to the eldest of the VanDoren children there. In the late summer or early fall of 1850 Sam Sr., Hannah and the boys, Brice, James and John, traveled to Cairo, Illinois, booked passage on a riverboat down the Mississippi and up the Red River to Shreveport and then overland to Ft Worth where they met up with older children William and Elizabeth (Farmer) Woody and George Preston and Jane Looney (Woody) Farmer who had recently moved from Upshur County, Texas. The Farmer's and the Woody's had left Tennessee for Texas overland in 1846. Samuel Woody Jr and his wife Mary Emeline and their six-week-old son, William Martin (my g-grandfather), left Roane County, Tennessee, in September 1850 via raft down the Tennessee to the Ohio and the to Cairo, Illinois. They traveled via riverboat to Shreveport and the overland to Ft. Worth. It is my belief that Sam Jr and Emeline joined up with his parents in Cairo, and they made the journey to Texas together. Cates in his wonderful book on the History of Wise County paint a great picture of what happened to the family after they settled in Ft. Worth which was an army outpost in 1850. -----Original Message----- From: txwise-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:txwise-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Wendy C Sent: Thursday, March 19, 2009 9:01 PM To: txwise@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TXWISE] Parker Co. History please don't ask which source (I can't remember).. at one time, there was some source/record that I feel was conflicting as to when Sam Woody Jr and his wife, came to Texas. The source seemed to indicate all of them came together, which I believe is not accurate. Sam Jr's wife was Emeline Breazeale. Her father, David, died in the mid to late 1840s, and there was involvement by Sam in settlement of his father in laws estate. At one time, I lived in Roane county, and found (personally touched) the probate file for the father, which included a receipt signed by Sam on his wife's behalf. There was no indication of this being sent from Texas (as in someone acting power of attorney). Sam Jr and Emeline are still living in Tenn when the 1850 census was taken; their eldest son was born there, and they moved before the birth of the 2nd child. Other records prove that Sam (presumably dad) was in Texas pre 1850, along with other children. I have not seen the photo, or background on that.. just wanted to provide the clarification that I have. I know at least one place seemed to contradict the documents between the father, Samuel and the son, Samuel. --- On Thu, 3/19/09, Bruce Woody <bwoody01@tampabay.rr.com> wrote: From: Bruce Woody <bwoody01@tampabay.rr.com> Subject: Re: [TXWISE] Parker Co. I think it is in The Double Log Cabin book. I have seen the picture and am not 100% sure it is Samuel & Hannah. I think that the picture of the man is too young to be Samuel Woody who was married to Hannah. It looks like Samuel Woody, Jr. their son. Link to index of names for 1964 'Bridgeport Index' newspaper pages http://www.wisecountytexas.info/bridgeportindex/1964-names.htm Check this out. If you don't see any names you recognize. Look at the picture of the George Bush Family. In this 1964 paper there were several old pictures (from the early 1900's) of Paradise and Grub Hill school classes. All the student's names are listed.
