    3. Thanks to everyone who responded to my earlier post regarding an inscription on one of my g-g-g-greatgrandmother's headstones. It is in the form of a circle with several letters surrounding the letters A.MRY. It was a real puzzle until I received the following message this morning........ Dear Clyde, This is a very special designation and rare, as far as we know. This is a designation that was given only to females of Mason members, popular during the mid-1800's (death dates of approximately 1863-1929), in southern states. The designation of FNDOZBTKC/AMRY, was a degree conferred in the US on wives, daughters, sisters, or mothers of Masons to secure them, by investing them in a peculiar mode of recognition, the aid and assistance of the fraternity, along with a secret sign of recognition. The mark was: AMRY encircled by FNDOZBTKC. As written in John 12:15 - Fear Not Daughter Of Zion Behold The King Cometh, (and AMRY being an anagram of Mary). More information can be found in Coil's "Masonic Encyclopedia". We are aware of only 12 such markers, all in southern states. We would be very interested in knowing the date of death and which state your grandmother is buried in. The person in AGS who is most familiar with this subject is going to be away for several weeks but would love to speak with you about this upon her return. May she contact you directly? 3. Does there happen to be any Wise County SHAW researchers on the list? I am a long time researcher of my Wise County lines (McNEELY, CLIFTON, HOLDEN, and CLARK), but have always been interested in the SHAW line found in Wise County around the Greenwood, Slidell and Alvord area. I dug around a few times and found this SHAW group was from MS and SC before that. Which made me more curious because my husband's line is also from MS and SC. In the 1990's I met some of the Wise County SHAW family in Greenwood where my Dad was born and raised. (And one of them had the exact same name as my husband.) Finally last night, I looked a bit further and I found the connection to my husband's line of SHAW. If anyone is working on their SHAW roots, please contact me. Thanks, Sheryl McNeely Shaw cliffsmom@comcast.net

    3. Does anyone know what the attraction was that drew so many fro the Wise Co. area to SanSaba Co. around the 1870s? My great great grandmother Susannah Woody Vandoren moved there after the 1870 census in Parker Co with 3 of her young daughters. What did she do for a living there? Why would she leave her family? I'm really curious. 3. Nancy, I transcribed most of the marriage records and we chose to do that rather than image them because there is no other information on them other than the names of the groom, the bride, the clerk and minister. I think La Darla transcribed book 1 before I was involved in the project. The grooms name appears twice as does the brides, there is a date of the license, a date of the marriage and a date that the clerk filed the returned marriage license. I suspect that some licenses were never returned and therefore we don't have copies of those. You can obtain a copy of the licenses from the Wise County Clerk. 1. Re: [TXWISE] Info on Marriages
    2. What you see is what you get basically. The marriage records on the roostweb site are exact transcriptions from the original marriage record book. So what you see is exactly the information that the bride and groom gave to the clerk when they got married. Hope that helps, or I guess it doesn't!
