    1. [TXWISE] updated Bridgeport Index newspaper pages and indexes
    2. Sue Tackel
    3. We've just updated some of the indexes and pages of the old Bridgeport Index newspaper that we took pictures of (over 15,000 newspaper pages are now online). In the table near the bottom of page http://www.wisecountytexas.info/bridgeportindex/old_papers.htm click on the underlined year to go to all pages for that year, or click on the underlined name of the "indexed by" person to go to a "Names Index" for that year. We are still working on some years. This is new, so let me know about links that don't work, etc. If anyone has access to old newspapers and is interested in this type of project, click on the "Imaging Methods" button at the top of the page. 3. Nancy, Sue and La Darla have captured images of 52 papers for 1961, but the index for that year is not complete and I don't think anyone is working on that one right now. Maybe Sue or La Darla will correct me if I am wrong. 1. [TXWISE] Researching Perry Houchens
    2. Christopher S. Vara
    3. Dear Sir or Madam: I am conducting genealogical research on Perry Houchens. My grandmother was, for a time, married to a Perry Houchens while he served in the United States Navy during World War II. They were stationed in Groton, CT from 1942-1944. They divorced in 1948. My searches in Ancestry.Com have yielded only two "Perry Houchens", this one and an individual who lives in Illinois. I was wondering if you may have information regarding this? This is from the 1920 United States Census. Thank you in advance. Sincerely, Christopher S. 1. Re: [TXWISE] Marriage License
    2. David E. Pitts
    3. Mary, I transcribed the marriage data from the LDS microfilm because the certificates do not list any relatives. You can order the certificates from the Wise County Clerk. I don't know the new price as it has changed. Don't forget to tell the clerk both the book and page number. Sometimes they claim that the marriage doesn't exist because their indices are not (I believe) as thorough and complete as mine is. My biggest problem that present a problem to you the user is that the names were very difficult to read at times and I may have misinterpreted the brides and grooms names. They are listed twice on the certificate so that helped some. Foster, J. B. Watson, Miss M. A. 1. Re: [TXWISE] Reunion for Mac! Questions
    2. Martha Wallace
    3. Hi Pat, I will answer your original questions about Reunion and if you have any further questions, contact me privately as this discussion can quickly go "off topic" from Wise County, On the Events panel, there is a button "Add Event." I have used this to add the event, "Census," for each year that the person was alive and entered the information about where I found that census - State, County, Census District, Enumeration District, Page No., etc. This will help you trace the person's locations throughout a lifetime and also let you know where the holes are in tracing him/her. Then I also create a source citation for the census and attach the source to birth, name, occupation, etc., anywhere I have used the information, mining the census information for all I can get. That let's me know where I found each piece of information. Another place I will put the information is in the Notes panel, again putting the location information and put a listing of the whole family and their information (copy and paste - don't keep retyping). Put the information from the different censuses in chronological order. This has been most useful because I can open that panel and see who was in the family at different times. I refer to this often. It's also possible to get the census image and attach it under Multimedia. I usually don't do this since finding the census page again online is pretty easy. Look at the "Add Event" button on the events panel and you will see a great variety of events that can be added - that will help you organize the information that you have. The Notes section is infinite in what it can hold, limited only by the size of your hard drive. Originally I tried to shorten and abbreviate what I put in Notes until I learned about the unlimited capability. You will love Reunion and all it can do. 3. Pat, I use an I-Mac and so does my wife. We both use Reunion (only had to pay once for two computers). It is not only is it a great program, but the Leister Company that produces it has great people. One time my wife had a link fail so one family was off by itself. She contacted Leister and they had her send her gedcom and they fixed the missing link (quickly and free). No problems since. We are both running Tiger. Reunion is so good that the Apple stores now carry it.
